Hi,

Does anyone know the standard jet size for a XLR125?

I had to replace the exhaust recently, and obviously as no-one in the world seems to make exhausts for this thing (except honda themselves who will mug you the first chance they get) i decided to cobble together a new Arrow front pipe from an XR (with a bit of modifying/grinding) and a Micron silencer (about 15 years old but still unused in its box) from some other Honda 125. Obviously as this will be higher flowing I am thinking of going up to the next size of jet. Also the restrictive plastic snorkel from the top of the airbox was missing when i got the bike so theres a big hole there now...

Cheers Mr. Green

according to my crazy itialian manual, its a 95 thats in there,
go for a 100 to start with,
it might not be enough with the snorkel removed, but should be a good place to start,
good a lucka aye Very Happy

What sort of performance do you get from your bike? One of my family just bought a minter but it's a bit on the slow side in my opinion. He was thinking of pulling the snorkel on that too.

well i'm under no illusions...its only a 125 so i'm not after blistering performance, just wanted to get it to start properly without having to leave it idling for 15 minutes on half choke before it'll move, and was hoping for a slightly more lively feel - nothing special really

And cheers HMMMNZ - i'll give that a go....110?

yeah get a few jets either side of the 110 mark,
i personally would start on 105 and work from there, id say it will be close to that mark,
also while you are fucking about,
take the exhaust off and have a look at the weld a the end of the pipe that goes into the engine, i know in alot of the larger cc xr's ive had the welding was crap and restricted alot of the flow , you might need to give the welds a clean up to improve gas flow..
good luck

I saw him again tonight and he's drilled four 8mm holes in the end of the stock tailcan. Perked it up a treat Smile

sorted methinks...instant improvement - i now have a 105 in there and it starts perfectly from whatever the temp is out there now (bout 5 centigrade i reckon). I haven't ridden it yet but it certainly runs smoothly and solidly. I have the set mixture screw 1 turn out so i may need to fiddle with that a bit (if i can figure out a way to get to the bleeding thing!)
....I'll be back once i've been for a test ride...

Funnily enough I modified his can further. We cut a few inches off the stock can, removed the baffles and fitted the guts of a 110 thumpstar silencer in the cavity. Cleaned it up by fitting the chrome cover off a hayabusa silencer and it now makes a fruity deep-tone noise that sounds like a much bigger bike but not very intrusive.

There's nothing quite like home-made performance modifications! So satisfying when you finally get it all running sweetly...

Right, for those who may be bothered...My XLR is now running a 100 - the 105 did run ok but absolutely stank of rich mixture. The 100 seems to work nicely, nice smooth tickover (as good as it'll ever be, at least) and steady power(!) delivery - seems to pull marginally better as well, so hopefully it won't keel over as soon as it spots a slight incline on the horizon! Job's a good'un

Winner Thumbs Up
