I've been having a problem with the nut on my front sprocket coming loose, I've bought a new nut and washer to go on but the washer is dished (the one on there is battered the pillock who put it on needs to be strung up). I'm unsure if it's cupped so I can tap the edge over as a locking tab or if the dished face goes against the sprocket as some sort of locking mechanism.

I think it's supposed to be a locking washer but does anybody whose fitted a new one know what the correct way to fit it would be for sure?

Thanks Jamie.

If it has a tab or splines in the centre that engage with the shaft splines, then it will be a washer that you bend up against the nut I would think. If not, then the wide end of the dome should face the sprocket. A healthy dose of threadlock compound would also be advisable.

Cheers phil, it does have splines on the shaft, just thought i'd double check before screwing the washer. Already got the threadlock too. Laughing Thumbs Up

Also, if it is thin enough to bend with relatively little effort then that is a give away. If you have to twat it half a dozen times with a lump hammer to get it to bend over, then it probably wasn't designed to.
