with this new ( ish ) smoking ban, i witnessed dot cotton smoking in her living room on eastenders, a few on corrie and one or two on emmerdale, now forgive me if im wrong but if they smoke inside like dot cotton was.... then surely that is smoking in an enclosed workspace, making this illegal,..........?can sumone explain or is it just that they use "fake " fags to suck on

The law also includes a limited exemption for performers, which applies to the performer only during the performance, where the artistic integrity of a performance makes it appropriate for a person who is taking part to smoke.

Could you smoke while doing karaoke in a pub as long as the song was about smoking?

depends on how far you're willing to stretch the term 'artistic integrity', for me, it ends some way before karaoke.

Wonder if anyone complained about it as they did have complaints when the Top Gear lads sparked up their Porsche Pipes on the show.

Some one got into trouble for smoking during their Edinburgh fringe festival show. They were playing Winston Churchill who (obviously) smoked cigars...

Can't remember who it was though... I think he eventually didn't light the cigar on stage, just held it. The police (or who ever deals with this stuff) where adamant he'd be prosecuted.

Might have been Bob Hoskins...
