So a friend of mine just bought one, and for only 1500 pounds, this being his first bike after passing the test I was a little shocked to say the least, having had a look at them this evening I must say I'm almost ready to stab my whole 400cc bike in the back and jump straight onto a 600. What do you reckon insurance would be like for an 18 year old with 2 years no claim bonus? am I asking for certain death by jumping straight onto a 600 after the RS125? I only briefly saw the friends bike but it was huge! and very wide, what's the weight like on them? is the power output going to feel hugely different to a 400? as always thanks for any help in advance! Very Happy

1500 is quite a lot for a srad... mine was 900.

£900 is cheap! Shocked is yours in good condition? I'd prefer to not end up with one that's been crashed/dropped/ 'fightered'. 675 for insurance isn't too bad I guess, so with 2 years NCB and TPO insurance surely the insurance wouldn't be over say 450? which is reasonable. So what's the power like? seriously large power wheelies? Twisted Evil can you answer any of my original questions? thanks...

mines in good nick, look.

https://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7766/54656704a5888226265lkc0.jpg

i rode a gsxr400 before this, and when i hit the 600 i was a bit 'fuck meeeeee' but it was a good 'fuck meeeee'... ill never go back put it that way.

as for insurance, i doubt it will be much less than 600 with 2 years.

from 125-600 is a pretty big leap though, even derestricted.
id say go from 125-400, but thats just me, it means theres more fun to have with bikes if you progress throu8gh the cc's..

roll on the thou Very Happy

Yes the power is gonna be so great it will rip your arms out at the sockets Shocked

Seriously you could start on a 1000 just go easy with the throttle.

400's to me are pointless bikes, a jump from 125 to 600 is a the way forward. Mr. Green

Hunt around for insurance as well it shouldn't be to high.

Try thebikeinsurer.co.uk.

R6 insurance was too high... Crying or Very sad the SRAD is about the same as a good condition 400, but more powerful and a lot newer, therefore guessing probably more likely to be reliable? Anyway January/February is around the corner, therefore exams soon to be over and time to buy next bike! Very Happy Thanks for the help people, it looks like this may well be my next bike, I do feel a bit like I'm going to miss out the whole 400 stage although McGees hatred for 400's does make me feel a little better Razz Can't wait to get a bigger bike now! Very Happy

Theres nothing to miss unless you want a "rewarding experience of making it go fast" yeah ok. Keeping the throttle pinned.

ive got all the original fairings Wink i put these ones on.
im sure it has been dropped at some point, because i dropped it Embarassed .

full service history too, dating back to 1998 when it was imported from germany, the original buyer paid £4388 for it.

ive then got service receipts, MOT certificates and other parts bought for it dating up to 2006 when it was last MOT'd before i owned it.

i thought it was too good to be true too, but it is!

heres the other fairings.
its since had an LED undertray and mini indys

im going from a cbr 125 to an sv650 Laughing the speed is ridiculous jumping from something gutless onto that. hopefully getting the bike restricted will make it more manageable, whole different rideing style to a 125.

Define manageable.

Any bike is manageable.

Thinking to be honest, it will stop me getting carried away and doing silly speeds when im a complete novice, which is good, the rest of it is just how much you twist the throttle.

No thanks! Laughing

They are chunky but they handle very well and are deceptively light, really comfy and easy to move around.

i dropped mine down a step with the wheels still on it so i had to lift it from below the step upwards...

in total it weighs about 200kg's, but itll only be about 100-125kg to lift it from a drop. then again im not too small.

when its going however, it rides smoother and more stable and lighter than all my other bikes. reversing them is a fucking nightmare though, im 6 foot 3 and 15 stone and still cant get the footing to backpedal it up a slight hill.

Everyone worries too much about this sort of thing, hell, I worried when I was about to upgrade. But for dear lord, I went from an XR125, to a zx6r Very Happy there'll be many people on here that have done bigger jumps as well.

The insurance will rape you though, well, mine did.

No no claims cos of a bastard theft, even though id been riding a full year. 18 years old, 1999 zx6r, £1660 TPFT Smile works out as £152 a month. Now thats rape, and I'll tell you this, my arse is sore Sad lol

But a bike really is how you manage it, and you can only go as fast as your right hand wants to.

I jumped on my dads 955i the other day, didnt feel mad at all, though it power wheelied a bit Shocked

And, from personal experience (for me anyways) you adapt rather quickly Laughing

I think if youre sensible, any bike is fine. Barring a '98 R1 Thumbs Up Razz

Had a 50 for a year, 3 days of training on a Cg 125.

Then jumped on a SRAD 600, which is now restricted.
The jump was large but not as bad as people make it out to be, and you will soon become used to the power.

Insurance is £650, TPF&T
