Kawasaki Z1A oil loss

I have a friend with a Kawasaki Z1A that is using a litre of oil every 1000 miles.It is a 1974 model with 40,000 on the clock, is this oil loss high or normal for the bike,if it's high any suggestions for the loss???????

I would say its a bit excesive.

Is it burning it or is it leaking out ? Thats the main issue.

It's definitely burning it somehow,no sign of oil on the garage floor or excessive smoking when running!!!!!!!!

They do burn a lot of oil but a full litre per 1000 miles is taking the piss a bit. (half a litre per 1000 would have been the high end of normal for an old zed to my mind)

Could be rings, could be valve stem oil seals. Head needs to come off for both anyway although a compression test could point you in direction of which.

higher than mine for sure. compression test is a good start, a leakdown test is better.
