Hi I hope that someone out there might be able to help me.
I have recently bought an old Suzuki Bandit 400 with the lower powered type engine, and found that the engine has a hole in one piston and decided it was most economical to replace the engine. I was told that the variable valve timing engine will fit but I need to replace the carbs, wiring loom and CDI unit. I have swapped everything over and have just found that the new engine does not fit as the electronic units at the camshaft ends foul the frame. I now notice that the frame that the VV timing engine has come out of has been modified by Suzuki and has cut away sections to allow for them.
My question is, Can I cut away part of the section of frame where it fouls or would this weaken the frame?
I would be pleased to hear from anyone with a solution, thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you. Idea

Any cutting of the frame will weaken it, by how much I don't know.

I wouldnt recommend it. I'd resell the motor you have and get the right one.

If you have all the electrics etc.. to suit the vvt motor you should be able to get a good amount for it i someone fancies one for a project.

Yeah, I'd re-sell the VVC engine and look out for a GSXR 400 engine....You may need to swop sump pans to clear the exhaust although the engine will fit in.

How much would you sell the vvc engine if you decide to do that?

PM me, cheers.

My thanks to everyone that has replied to my question. Rather than cutting the frame and risking weaken it or bracing the sections cut out, I think my best option is to use the original frame that the VV engine came out of and swap over all the good parts off the bike with the knackered (technical term) engine. Once again thank you, what a wonderful thing these forums are!!!!! Rolling Eyes
