For me it has to be my winter gloves, my hands stink like a sumo wrestlers crotch cloth.

Gloves for me for sure - have to wash my hands about three times to get the smell out.

Nice.

Right, I have just sniffed all my gear (sounds quite strange), and none of my gear really smells too bad. So the piece that smells the "worst" out of the lot has to be my summer gloves. I can describe the aroma as smelling like leather, oil (engine) with a hint of woodiness.

Winter gloves - don't seem to smell at all
Helmet - smells quite nice actually...has never been washed in 3 years (actually, that sounds a little dodgy!)
Jacket - just smells like leather
Boots - don't smell too bad!

I guess I am just a clean, nice smelling mofo. Wink

My lid was minging until I removed the liner and cheek pads last week and gave them a good clean. Come up like new again.

Answer to most of you, give your kit a wash. Or hang it out on the line,or hang it in the airing cuboard. Heat kills bacteria etc,and fresh air, well you know..fresh? And give your lid a wipe down with some hot suddy water or something,or buy some fabreeze, etc. Or for you hardcore lot..STINK. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I wash my jacket and trousers like every couple of weeks as theyre used daily. Dont smell Razz

When winter gloves with non removeable lining start to smell, I use foam shoe cleaner on them. Squirt a load in, and squeeze up and down the glove, then leave it dry. Doesnt take much foam!

Neck buffs and balaclava's get the most icky, because youre usually breathing against them, and they tend to get a bit moist Sick so once or twice a week for those two!

Nothing else ever smells bad!

Nothing is quite as honking as a gore-tex jacket that's been screwed up in a ball at the bottom of a dry-bag for six months. You can even smell it as you're riding along.

Just washed my gear.

However, upon removing the knee armor on my 2nd hand trousers, the lining was yellow Embarassed

Doesn't smell and nor did the trousers before they visited the washing machine. Still disinfected the knee armor though.

Another thing, will the waterproofness be damaged by machine washing textiles on the handwash cycle?

Read care instruction label which should be on them somewhere.

My biking pants smell a bit after a year maybe I should get another pair.

My textile jacket smelt of badger wee for a few months, because I slept under a bridge in it, in a badgers wee.

Just dont use fabric softener and only a very small fraction of detergent, on a cold wash (30 degrees works ok with mine).

I find my gloves just smell of leather and petrol.

The only bit of my kit that smells is my leather trousers when they get wet, they smell of wet dead dog then.

I have tried the freezer method... the bloody bacteria just go in to hibernation and the gloves stink equally as bad when defrosted after 3 days in the freezer (and yes I do wash my hands often)

None of my stuff.

The GSXR jacket is discoloured by road grime and I'm tired of washing it.

My winter gloves still actually smell nice. And my leather stuff still smells vaguely of leather Drooling

Love the smell of leather.

After yesterday I'd have to say my thermal under-shirt, I got to work and left it on all day with my regular shirt and two fleeces. It was rather cold in the converted farmer workers cottage I work in.

Thankfully it was something I could wash easily, nothing else kit-wise smells at all.

My old boots smell of cat piss.

The winter gloves (before a run through the washing machine) stank of really stale sweat as I used them in summer before getting some summer gloves.

Mainly though it all smells slightly of ammonia due to the waterproofing stuff I spray them down with periodically.

I remember asking my instructor, "How do you get rid of the stale sweat smell out of bike gear?"

"You just learn tto live with it..." Smile

K.
