Anyone done it?

If so how did you find it?

I could be going next year around April ish depending I can get the funds/time off.

My zxr would of just been on the road by then and in tip top condition, its got 27K on it at the mo and im a bit wary to say the least. I know its prob not the most suitable bike for the job ( Laughing ) but I cant see other than mechanicly what could go wrong. anyone here rode to the Nurburgring?

Cheers

Mate of mine at the lufbra union motorcycle club did it on his VFR400 and was going around R6's Gixxers, even an RC45, THE LOT peg scraping! He was reliably informed by the RC45 rider at the car-park that "he shouldn't have leant the bike THAT far over!", chamfered footpegs and the like - proof was from the auto club guys following him on lightened and stripped out corsas (yes don't laugh but it was just a chassis, roll cage, stiffened springs - lift off oversteer and such like with a few on audi quattros !)

It's something everyone should try once no matter what bike your on.

Absolutely do it, most of the track is about keeping the corner speed up anyway.

It's still gonna be the best thing you will have ever done on your bike.

Sounds good then Very Happy

The only other thing im worried about is when actualy on the track, ive been on a 4t 125 for just over a year now and only ridden the zxr once.

Do I need to know the lines etc for corners? or just go there and wing it?

I'd watch a few video's then just go there and take it steady for a few laps, that said it's not the sort of track you learn in a week.

Something like Tourist Trophy on PS2 may help to learn which way the track goes too.

It would take ages to learn the ring, just go and wing it. I had the good fortune on most of my laps to latch on to fairly quick people to show me the way round. May not be advisable though as if they misjudge a corner you will too.

One of our party crashed on one of the many deceptive corners trying to keep up with me. Laughing

When few of the lads went to the ring in 2006, they were forever shotgunning my Tourist Trophy CD! Failing that, any car game - forza motorsport, gran turismo 4, Tourist trophy will give you a better insight of the ring so that it won't be as big as a surprise.

Also, one thing is NOT to bin it against the armco or break down whilst in the ring - horror stories of 1000 euro repair bills for the barriers and 500 euro recovery! Wink Thumbs Up

And don't even tell your insurers that you're going to the ring!

It's a public road. You have to be insured.

Quite a few insurance companies refuse insurance if it's on the ring. Check the small print, it won't say the ring specifically, but deregulated public roads or something.

My old car insurance (admiral) actually stated that I was not insured on the ring! Was quite suprised and made me laugh, for about 2 seconds.

My insurance policy specifically names the ring, saying I'm not insured there.

Go there, if you break down, somehow get out of the ring and then claim you broke down just a mere 5m from the entrance to the carpark after you were riding there to see a mate go round it Wink

What's breaking down got to do with anything?

It's crashing you want to worry about imagine you rear end a brand new Ferrari or something and your not insured. Crying or Very sad

Yes, just go on it anyway, but be careful!

The only real problem would be if you smack the barrier bad, or fuck yourself up bad. resulting in track closure costs also. But I figured if that happened it would be the least of my worries.

Take it easy when you first get out there. I was being passed by everyone for my first five laps or so - had the right indicator on all the time, and I have studied videos and games of this track for over a decade. It just takes some time to get your head round the reality.

By the end only locals were passing me, and dicking all over porkas, ferraris and litre bikes is great fun.

My mate was really anal about the whole thing - got ADAC breakdown insurance, the lot, just to be safe etc, but the best advice is just to be careful.

You need to look at this site, it tells you everything you need to know. Perhaps join this forum too, and check out Dale Lomas' (of PB fame) site too.

Lots of insurers don't cover ring action - check oot Lovejoy's site for the info.

Many would get out of it if you had a stopwatch going at the time too - as 'time trailing' is always prohibited in standard insurance.
