Dont you just love those crazy Americans, we thought we had it bad when our government started talking about banning Samurai Swords yet over in the States you children can be arrested for the use of cutlery!

https://www.local6.com/news/14857286/detail.html

OK on a more serious note I can understand confiscation, maybe a chat with the parents etc etc, but arrest?

Lucky she wasnt tasered Laughing

She can't possibly be an "american", she must be an exchange student, I've yet to meet an "american" who can use cutlery or possesses table manners. Wink

Well she was in elementary school think that makes her under 12 possibly? Bit harsh arresting her! would have just took it of her and told parents as its dangerous and not for kids to have.

Why shouldn't a 10-year-old have a steak knife? When exactly did your parents stop cutting your food for you? When you were 13? Rolling Eyes

In willing hands, anything can be dangerous; I've seen vicious injuries in classmates caused by nothing more than a very sharp pencil.

Well I would almost certainly have had a penknife in my pocket when I was 10. A lot of people did when I was at school which isn't that long ago. My grandad bought me my first penknife for my 10th birthday. It had two screwdrivers, a bradawl and a can opener too and I carried it everywhere.

It's only really in the last 10 years or so that carrying a small knife about with you has been seen as worthy of a fuss.

It's a wonder we didn't stab all each other to death while walking down the street really. We should thank the government for saving us from ourselves.

Exactly and without a decent pocket knife, we'd never have been able to get the stones out of horses hooves either. Rolling Eyes

Didn't need to, the canteen had sharp knives. But had they not had those, yes, I would have taken one. I did, however, have my Swiss Army knife with me, one that my dad gave me as it had loads of useful things to repair a pushbike with.

The world has gone absolutely mad.

Yep i agree, thats how it was back in those days however a penknife or a swiss army knife is a little different than walking around with a 5in open bladed steak knife.

Walking round? or sitting at the dinner table cutting you lunch?

do people just teleport to and from schools these days then?

Ah yes carrying a lunch box containing a knife is clearly grounds for arrest, I should consider myself lucky I didnt get the death penalty on the way home when I bought my last full set of steak knives, with 12 knives in a box, I could have started a world war 3!

Open your eyes people, you don't just have a steak knife with you just to eat some food you have it for killing people. Do you think cavemen had knives for eating? Of course not, they had hands. She was out to kill someone, just because she didn't threaten or hurt anyone doesn't make it any different, I hope she's locked away for years.

It's obviously the school's fault for offering food that couldn't be consumed using only a spork.

Wow I am glad I didnt go to american schools... On numerous occasions tha police confiscated bb guns and such off me when they came into school to search my bag... Bastards Twisted Evil .
Oh well I deserved it, they oddly gave me my weapons back.
No I was not carrying them to threaten people with, me and my mates used to go to fields and shoot at eachother in mini skirmishes back in tha day... If they would have found my small arms factory on tha other hand I doubt very much I would be telling you any of this. Rolling Eyes

But yeh I have always carried some form of 'illicit' weaponry on my person, even in full view of police on occasions and to anyone who tells me I can't, meet my little friend Middle Finger
But apart from all else it is ridiculous because If you think about it knives are tha most important tool ever conceived, Tha knife was mankinds first lifeline in hunting, construction and combat and they have many useful functions in day to day life (NO NOT LITTLE PIKEY PRICKS MUGGING INNOCENT PEOPLE).

As far as I am concerned carrying sharp or even blunt weaponry such as batons for tha use of tool/ self defense is a right.
Anyone who fails to see tha useful qualities of such items has been brainwashed by this nanny state.
If everyone was allowed to carry knives/ guns/ bats ect then who knows, prehaps everybody would think twice about violent crime, all I know is it deffinitly wouldn't get any worse, since all these effects have been banned there has been no improvement, just a decline in tha publics feeling of safety. Mad
