Hello;
Just been toying with the idea of going to Turkey on the bike next summer. Ride to Italy and get the ferry from Brindisi, will probably have a look at some cities on the route, the ferry is about 150euros, and is about a 40hour sail. Then its about another hours ride to Izmir from Cesme, theres probably a ferry direct to izmir actually... anyways, I am half Turkish and I grew up in Izmir, also got a lot of family and friends there, (even biker friends), so gonna do some little tours in Turkey aswell... route Im thinking is
(purple is a possible aegean and med coast ride)

thats a bit too hardcore... he's done the Black sea region, the climate there is pretty much same as here in UK, its green everywhere.. no olive trees...but it is very very pretty... altho I think the aegean is the way forward ____________________ 1989 CG125 - Childhood Sweetheart (she got kidnapped by baddies)

right Ive actually started planningly thinking about this last night properly,Date is I think beginning of august, depends when my summer placement ends, or my PT crap job, rather have a summer placement though. Read the FAQ section and theres loads of guides on the net how to pack and not and all that crap... Ive changed my route a bit... Ive decided to go all the way through france to the south coast, Marseilles area, then ride in to italy on the med coast, would really like to see Florence aswell. Im planning on staying Student Hostels, averae €25 a night. I need to get to Birindisi or Ancona in Italy to my ferry(depends which one I book), I was thinking of giving myself 6-7 or maybe more days, as I want to see bits of France and Italy as I go along,say, spend a night or two some where and visit the area so need to know where I am stopping, and what Im going to see and where Im going to stay, bla bla... Its probably been asked before but what is worth seeing in France (I am avoiding Paris, went on too many school trips). I will be trying to avoid motorways most of the time anyway. So how do hell you plan a trip (I can also work out my budget aswell)????? I will be going on the ZXR400 if I dont write it off till then... looking forward to the wrist ache ____________________ 1989 CG125 - Childhood Sweetheart (she got kidnapped by baddies)

you are missing some great roads on that route, Just north of Nice and also on the South coast of France
Don't forget Italian motorways for bikes is full price (france is 1/2) ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Just hit the N routes out then,
From north of France to South I barely touched the motorway except the rings around cities which are unavoidable and where I got lost near Oneyeux, and the A26 out of Calais which cost me like 3 Euro to get to St Omar.
I forget the road I too to Reims ,
but from Reims I went to Champagne via the N44, which can be taken at 150mph + easy (has highly visible speed cameras and its straight flat and boring but cheaper than the autoroute).
Backroads to Neufchatau , to Chaumont (all pretty forgettable)
down the N74 to Dijon
N5 to St Claude/Swiss border , this is where it got interesting I think, then I got lost ended up in Oneyeux
got lost on the roads north of Aix Le bains (fantastic canyons and gorges (french Col) which are interesting good roads too
across through chambery and down into Grenoble which everyroad south and around there is pretty good especially grenoble to Gap and gap to Castellane at which you have a choice between the N85 all the way to Grasse and or the N202 both of which are fantastic with the N202 better I think ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
