Direct.Gov says this:

Quote:
You cannot tax your vehicle until your insurance certificate arrives or your insurance cover for your vehicle has updated on the Motor Insurance Database.

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_069671

You can check the Motor Insurance Database here:

Chances are that it will update on the database before you get your bit of paper.

It's not on yet?

good call, i still haven't got the log book back, but i do have the V5C/2 form which i mine until the log book comes back.

You should have the same aswell chris. i think that you can use that to tax the bike, all u need is the log book or V5C bit of the old log book, MOT cert and if the insurance is on the databse you should be good to go. But then again i might be makin it all up. Wink

When I wanted to do that for my car I asked for my cert to be emailed, I printed it off, took it to post office and got my tax.
Sent out the documents aswell few days later.

Did they email it to you on the day you spoke to them on the phone and got insured?

I've often wondered how many people make up a certificate of insurance on their computer, print it out and take it to the post office to get get tax. It's certainly easy enough to do and the post office never check.

GaNsA,

If you buy your tax on line

https://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles.aspx

you don't need the insurance paperwork. The DVLA computer should have the insurance details (and MOT etc) so you can get legal in about 5 minutes without leaving the house Smile

Then you can leave the house on 2 wheels Very Happy

Happy Christmas.

This is fine if you have owned the bike long enough to have it registered at your address..... If not its no good as it goes to the registered owners address and no where else.
While you may be able to ask the last owner to send it on to you, if they do a payment security check, the address details won't match and payment will fail....
They have to stop the fraudsters somehow. Thumbs Up
