got this nov last year, looks to be a good project, not been used for some time, fitted with new pipes front and rear mud guards and seat,
in 1981 I covered over 2500 miles in 3 weeks on one, used £££ in fuel
but over all a very good bike, hope to get this sorted for summer and do a matlock 2stroke run.
had lots of 2strokes in the past rg500 h2750s rgvs etc.
tried to get the out of my life, but they keep coming back.

I've never ridden one yet, but always liked the looks and sound of them loads! It will be a great project and am looking forward to the updates. Are you planning on a fairly standard looking spec, or do you fancy building a K8 kettle like Richard Lindoe has?

It's total ruination of a classic, but I really like the idea of modern GSXR running gear engineered to fit the Kettle frame, but not as much as the replacement for the liquid cooled badges on Richards bike! Smile

going to try and keep it standard, had a rgv500 some years ago and the work on that was 2 years to get it right then I poped the engine then sold it £1500.

looks good in the photo but the tank has got light rust inside and some small dints, il try some petseal inside then get it repaired and painted, wiring near the battery looks a bit poor and the front brake pipes need replacing, but the rest looks good.
going to get it running soon see if the motors good.

It's amazing how much photos of bikes manage to hide all those little problems.

Good luck with it.

What a great looking bike. Good luck with it, looks like it will be a superb project. I can't get 2Ts out of my system either - fabulous things.

had a tzr 3xv with a 350ypvs motor in it, had a go round oulton park in the rain, just not got the legs down the straights, good fun in the bends.

That is the reason I love my TZR, the twisties, just brilliant fun. For the motorways, longer runs and faster A roads there is my fireblade. I think I have the best of both worlds.

I would still pick the TZR if I could have just one bike. 2Ts have so much soul. Enjoy every mile on the GT.

Agree with m3-paul, if I had to keep one bike it would be my YR5, it's fucking useless at most things other than pulling wheelies and riding on B-roads (but not too far, it offloads petrol like the Exxon Valdez and was rejected by the Spanish Inquisition for being too uncomfortable), but I just like the noise and smell and the fiddling about.
Hi is the yr5 like the yds7 but older.
have you got some pics of it.

Another 2T fan here, but haven't had one in a while. Nice GT, hope you make a good job of it, and keep it going for a good long while. I always assume if it has side reflectors like those, it'll be a US import?

I see this nice one at H's café, Dorchester quite often - a standard to aim for?

The YR5 is the 350 version of the YDS7.

https://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/BLUEX5/DSC00066.jpg~original

It's a bit fiddled with, has RD cylinders and carbs, Allspeeds / K&N drop in filter etc. Good fun.

love it, I had a yds7 ex pro/racer on the road in the late 70s brill bike had 4 sets of pistons rebores etc, got pulled at 110 by the cops he was going mad with me as it was a 30mph on that road. the good old days just got a good taking to and get on your way.
