Hello chaps,

Is this oil OK to use in my XR250?

Link

Went into Halfords to get some oil to do a change and saw this half price. Rather spend £20+ on motorbike oil I'd thought this would be OK seeing as the oil is going to be changed every couple of rides.

These aren't the reduced friction additives are they? A quick Google suggests they're not, just looking for confirmation before I chuck some in the bike.

Cheers.

You get what you pay for in the end Joe, if you want longer engine life and less wear and tear i'd use VSX oils by shell. I know its not cheap but i'd rather use propper stuff IMO. Theres probably no problems with using Halfords oils but i wouldnt.

The oil is only going to be used for a few hours between changes. It's the friction additives I'm worried about. I'm guessing there aren't any as it's cheap oil but want to make sure.

I cant really help you on that, sorry. I would go ask down at your local bike center and ask all about oils, they should know about them. The garage by me is very helpful and i've asked loads of questions and never got a "i dont know".

My halfords does halfords bike oil, semi and fully. But I have a halfords trade card and get castrol for £20, £5 or so off.

I've used Halfords own label 10/40 bike part synthetic stuff for over 2 years - no probs.

To be honest I had no probs with normal car 10/40, but comments on this forum, made me use the specific bike stuff.

I think the key is oil changes and regularly - I'll do no more than 4K on the ER5 , 2K on the Z
