Yet more problems manifest themselves today , I need a quick fix since I'm at work and will have to return home in the dark.

Rear light won't work , brake lights are fine, but the rear light won't come on on head lamps on or side lights, I've not touched the electrical system looking for a quick bodge to get it to work might have to just hold the brake in a little to use the brake light as a sub for a while.

My manuals are at home and so are most of my tools, any ideas ? (no fuses have been changed or touched since my off) and it worked fine before

EDIT

bulbs are not busted as brake lights work,

connectors must be ok due to the brake light coming on,

Battery is ok

BIgger problems,

Managed to rescue my NTV (was stuck in mud and very dead), brakes seized = new caliper seals easy job ,

but bike went total loss on the way home , killed a battery , got home started up OK , now turn the key lights come on (neutral + side stand) , push the starter button , nothing , engine doesn't even spin,

Battery only charges intermittantly,

going to get some spares and bits from Wemoto or Davidsilvers this weekend to try to fix, but the rear light thing is the most urgent.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Brake light working doesn't mean the rear-light filament is ok.
Nor does it mean the connector or electrics for that are ok.

First thing I'd do is look at the bulb, then get the multimeter out.

I got a push bike rear LED light for my push bike for £1.99 from sainsburys the other day - they might still have them in stock.

Let me know if you need a lift home and I'll check my insurance to see if I'm covered.

yeah but the CBR is 2 bulbs what are the odds of two bulb fillaments going wrong? ,

it did cross my mind as a quick bodge I can stick a torch into the rear light compartment as a bodge or re-route the side light from the front of the bike to the tail light.

Thanks tobes but I'm in Manchester , as said the CBR is rideable and I can bodge by holding the brake in slightly so the brake light is on and make it the 3 miles home.

Hi,

I know you're in Manchester mate, it's not far.

You should be alright, I've done 20 miles on a Deauville with no running filament left on the back.

G's quite correct. Each bulb will (usually) have two filaments. I've experienced simultaneous failure of both bulbs before so it does happen.

I've also had situations where the bulb filaments 'opened out' and touched each other. Proper headache that one was!

For the meantime I'd try a new bulb in there and if that fails get a cheapo bicycle light and strap it to the back to get you home.

You'll probably then need to chase the wiring around the lighting circuit with a multimeter to find out exactly what's causing the problem.

Rather than holding the brake lever in a bit just adjust the rear brake light switch.

If you have the bits and the time run a live wire from the battery to the rear light.
