I bought 2 cans of black HT silicone to spray my headers with.

You said to put it on, then run the bike.

Do I take the headers off the bike to do so? Or is it messy and would get all over me if I tried to handle them to put them back on, before they get hot?

It is much better if you do take the headers off although in theory you could leave them on and just be careful with the spray. Its just like spray paint, you need plenty of ventilation, and light coats waiting for each to dry before the next one.

Like I said, the silicone will be dry when you install the headers but when you run the bike and the temperature gets to a few hundred degrees the silicone sort of bakes into the header wrap. This does mean that theres some smoke produced, maybe for a few days, but I've never seen any catch fire, yet. Wink
