Not suprised really. The people there seem to have had enough of their 'leader' (whom we in the West helped put into power around '99) screwing them over.

Now he's lost the people's support there's only two choices left. Trick them into thinking they have democracy with a fake election and puppet candidates or take over with the army using force. Oh and any political dissidents protesting are being rounded up as I type this..

Guess he's chosen the latter then. Thumbs Down

Rolling Eyes

What's more worrying is our government (along with the US) put all the extremists in power.

You can't have it both ways. Learn some history.

-{edit} oh and I thought Iraq did have Nukes? Rolling Eyes x10000000

If history tells us anything is that these people will have a war on anything. They will support one side at the start and change sides depending on who has married who, what day of the year it is, how many goes shit in th estreet that day and what some old woman in the local market says about the price of goat turd. They have as many faces as there are pages in what ever religious text they decide is the best at that time. Honour is for others to have but them to uphold. Yes we have supported some crackpots in the past but we thought we were dealing with the right people at the time, but there will never be the right person to deal with just the least scarey than the others.
In this land and most of the western world we will defend our family and our home, alot of the people we are dealing with don't recognise a home as such just areas they think are promised to them by an old book and as for protecting the family, strap a bomb around your kids and send them for some chocolate from the nice army man.

The wars will never be won only ever lost, there will always be violence as there has always ever been. Just different uniforms, ideals or causes that must be fought to the death.

The best thing to do is let the buggers get on with it and protect our own with as much force and pre emptive activity that is needed.

No, we supported those who gave us the best deal at the time. Almost 30 years after they kicked the last western supported despot out of power in Iran and we are still suffering the backlash (much reduced now).

Sadam was supported because he was against Iran, and Iran had kicked out our friendly neighbourhood dictator.

All the best

Keith

I feel like grabbing your head and shouting "Wake up!" repeatedly but alas, I fear it'd do no good.

I'm unsure as to how long you've been on this planet but can assure you that for as long as I've been on this Earth we have been meddling with Middle East politics through nefarious means. Whether that was supporting dictators with containers full of guns, cash or both; or invading to remove democratically elected foreign leaders that 'weren't behaving themselves' or doing as we say.

I for one have had enough of it. I've had enough of the death and poisoning of foreign and domestic troops and innocent civilians in our name. I've had enough of the innocent bloodshed caused by many of these 'fake' suicide bombings (especially Iraq recently).

These monsters in charge want you to believe that all foreigners are out to get you but if you'd open your eyes you'd see a lot of the attacks are from us in the form of 'pre-emptive strikes' founded on either no evidence or fabricated (i.e. Niger documents)

Now you can believe all the spoon-fed propaganda you like, designed to keep you in a state of perpetual fear, and to prevent you from critically thinking and remembring history. I'd much rather judge a tree by it's fruit and call out these ''Western heroes of freedom and democracy' (FFS Rolling Eyes ) as the war criminals they are.

Keith, as usual is correct. We continue (we as in UK/US etc) to support evil dicatators as long as the price is right and they do a good business deal. Check out who supported Mau for reign in China if you don't believe me, and we all know how evil that guy is.

Thumbs Down

Perhaps if we look at the History of these countries prior to the UK/US and we could see what they were like. yep no change there then. So many people want to blame the recent history and not look at the long term culture of these places. But if you want to justify your narrow popular beliefs that the west is bad and that it is all the west's fault by calling everyone else nieve or looking through rose tinted glasses then so be it. Just like the slave trade, the west didn't start it and we only took part in it for a few hundred years but we are always the ones to be held to account for it. Just look at the bible, they talked about slaves in a structured way while we were still hugging trees and finding out about basic animal herding. But lets not let facts get in the way of trendy lefty thinking that all the west is bad and these other countries would be model states if we hadn't ever got in our boats and left our shores.

And their history reflects ours quite a lot, countries prior to the UK/US used to kill each other lots,

English and European history is littered with examples of us killing each other lots, you'd be hard pressed to find a 100 or even 50 year period were we haven't been killing each other for silly reasons, first it was the scots, then we banded together and considered the French/Spanish loonies and decided to wipe each other out etc....

the net effect of external aid and or help is that it gives others a common 'enemy' to blame, thus the enemy of my enemy is my friend type situation.

Say Skudd aren't you coming for food on Saturday? you seem to live only in St Helens.

Now I know you're just another paranoid nut-job.

The irony of the situation is that you are doing exactly the same thing - you've just chosen a different bowl to be spoon-fed from.

More narrow self-flaggelation. Every country in the history of the world has done pretty much anything it could to better its own interests above those of everyone else - quite often at any cost. To suggest for even a second that the UK/US are the only ones doing this is madness, and ignores salient facts like the French sold Iraq more weapons than the UK ever did - for one example.

Look at China propping up evil governments in Sudan and Zimbabwe, Russia raping Chechnya (which I don't remember you mentioning even once on these forums in all your spit-flecked ranting), France and Russia mysteriously opposing the recent war in Iraq just after they signed huge oil deals with its murderous dictator.

We might be tossers - but lets not kid ourselves that we're the only ones.

I see the fake election in Pakistan is just around the corner. Watch this space for a few opposition leaders to go 'missing' or be 'suicided' soon.

Rolling Eyes Oooh lookie, guess who predicted Bhutto's death.

(By the way, if anyone thinks she was killed just by the bomb blast, there's footage of her being gunned down seconds before the blast - I guess the bomb was the cover required to blame Al-CIAda ) Thumbs Down
