Norwich union day insurance for cars... anyone use it?

I've used it before to borrow mates cars but not for this...

basially I'm waiting on getting a new van, but a bit short of the one I really want...

I've been thinking of buying a cheap car, any car thats cheap and has a tow bar...

can I use day insurance on this for the days I want to use it and leave it uninsured for the rest of the time?

I don't see any reason why not but thought I'd see if anyone on here has experience with norwich union day insurance and has done something similar to this before?

It's not gonna be that cheap to do and if it gets pinched you won't be covered...

Just read the small print before you take out a policy, lots of clauses where they won't provide you with insurance, ie more than 6points in last 5years, under 25 years of age if main driver, if your little toe is longer than 2.5cm etc. Just read it first as all these temporary insurance companies let you take out a policy online without forcing you to read the terms first, which cant actually later prove to show the policy can't actually cover you.
