Yeah, I know people are obsessed with it, but is there some way of getting it turned off for at least a week? I realise some take no notice but far too many use it as a means of 'attacking' others without explaining why. It would be far more interesting if they had to put their feelings into words. Its a good time of year, the boards are slow and the majority of posts are boring. It'll be good for all to be honest to each other without repercussions.

I for one don't give a flying fuck about it and forget to give karma when it
should be given.
I will try to remember in future.

Paddy.

Just post about it in the feedback forum and I'm sure it'll get dealt with quickly. Thumbs Up

Use the PM system if you're worried about the repercussions of posting something, its a dangerous world we live in where everyone can give out "boring" ratings or even "SPAM" ratings as there aren't moderators or admins watching the forum 24/7! Shocked

Posting useful info in Workshop gets you gold.

As for turning it off, I really don't think after a week there would be that much frustration caused for the offenders to post.

I think Karma should be turned off in the workshop section at least, too many idiots see posting bad advice in there as a way to get good Karma, their posts drown out the useful advice.

I also think that karma is dished out unfairly at times... what I mean by that is, I have seen a great post or a good link made by a forummer that gets karma ignored... but as soon as one of the well liked/known members replys, good post etc, karma is thrown at them. And I think we all "well most" of us understand why this happens.

I actually believe this karma ratings system (I understand why we have it) changes a lot of people online personalitys.

Anyone rember the boys from the black stuff "Gissa job" Wink awaits confused karma Laughing

Just wanted to give my 2ps worth.

Oh great, the King of pointless posts has returned. Yippee Rolling Eyes

Have you learnt how to tag more than five words into a proper sentence yet?

You can usually tell what the quality/helpfulness of a post will be like from the posters karma, Most people with gold blobs generally don't post shit.

People like me who don't have that much to contribute and just make the odd post normally have green blobs.

Then there's people who make a topic when they are going for a dump, or feeding their nan's goldfish next Wednesday which no one wants/needs to know.

I think a good idea might be that you have to add a short caption explaining why you rated the post as you did.

I think if some one post crap in the workshop they should get hammered
with red blobs if they are just trying to get good ratings and post rubbish.
Shaun if you posted in the workshop and got no answer for days because
no one got karma in there would be happy with that.Just saying what I think. Thumbs Up

He would be happy that genuine people posted useful info irrespective of if they got double Karma or not. There was one post in there tonight where someone heard a knock on their bike. The first reply was that the big end bearing had gone. The second agreed. No one mentioned that it might just be a bit of gravel. I don't bother rating these posts as 'disagree' despite them needing it, mainly because whats the point? But also because you can almost guarantee that the person who got the negative will generally go out of their way to rate your posts as negative, in some cases, forever more. what's the point in that?

I agree with Ichy. I never really give bad karma out and just stick to the good unless it's really bad. If something annoys me and usually just leave it.

Now who wants to help me get my gold blobs Razz

My karma hasn't changed for the better part of two years, now. This is most likely because I pretty much stick to the bottom end of the forums which, as I've been told, gets you absolutely no karma per post. Also, my frequent use of the words shit, ass, and fuck tend to stifle any karma growth that might have spurred from the occasional up ratings I receive.

And I stay the fuck out of the workshop because, despite knowing my advice is crap, at least outside the realm of human psychology and economics, I still feel the need to give it when asked (or reading) a question.
