Document Wallet?

I'm after some sort of wallet or small booklet i can keep all my bikes documents in, any suggestions as currently theyre folded in my pocket, and they arn't taking well to this punishment!

oh and under my seat is a bad suggestion simply because the locks on nsr's are stupid!

you could always put them in the roof of your helmet for a while I used to do that.

that said a producer is SUPPOSED to have a defence of 5 or so days at the police station of your choice , except for insurance , so carry that.

I use an A5 Polyfile 55p from Wilko, though I prefer not to carry any documents with me except for my photocard licence (I leave the paper part at home), and prior to passing my test I kept my CBT certificate in my pocket.

Do you really carry your bike's documents (V5C and insurance?) with you?

If you do, don't leave the registration on the bike; that way if the bike's nicked, you're making it easy for them to sell it seemingly legally.

I only carry mine when I absolutely have to, I'm paranoid about losing them and THEN getting a producer, but thats just experience of dealing with the DVLA when time is limited.

So can I ask why are you carrying yours?

and how big is the pocket you are putting them in? You can get A5 envelopes with cardboard backs from the post office. One of those in an A5 plastic wallet to keep the wet off should keep your documents from degrading too much while you have to carry them.

To be honest i only carry them "just in case" as i was advised "should you ever get stopped you want the procedure to be as smooth as possible".

I think im probabaly just worrying too much.

i would rather leave the documents at home to be honest.

is there anything i HAVE to carry then? just my photocard? i know this isn't 100% neccesary but it's smaller than a book of doc's and will help a bit!

It isn't required for you to carry any documents.

The exception is when you do your bike test because the examiner needs to see them before your test.

If you get stopped by the Police and they want to see your documents they'll write you a producer and you'll have something like seven days to attend a Police Station with the producer and all your documents.

Easiest thing in the world and a lot less stressful than having to replace your documents if they get lost.

Personally I carry my photocard because I have a space for it in my wallet and it is useful for when I need photo id. Nothing to do with my riding.

I got stopped and breathalized randomly, asked for documents, I only had my pass certificate that I'd forgotten to take out my jacket, the officer said he wouldn't expect me to have all the documents, found out from his magic black box I was taxed and insured and said he wasn't going to bother getting me to produce. Of course being totally legal it wouldn't have made a difference apart from the inconvenience, but still, they may prefer you to carry the docs, but they certainly don't expect you to.

In which case i dont see why he would want to get a producer to you if you were taxed and insured and werent doing anything wrong?

It seems like a waste of the coppers, yours and the officer in the station you'll produce to's time.

I was speeding slightly. But not really. He said it was more 'aggressive riding' and that because my exhaust is loud I should have been riding more conservatively. (was like 2 in the morning and I was going for it)

Fair enough seems like an alright copper to me!

Anyways i only carry photocard as they can dig up my bike being owned by me and taxed (that was the CBR, the new one WILL be owned by me in a month or two!) so was only insurance that they would need to produce on and most of the time random stops or tellings off i dont think they are as bothered.

Had a great one once.

Pulled over i get off remove helmet with my best 'be nice to me' face on and i get from the copper who just got out the passenger side -

'You had anything to drink tonight?'

so i reply

'Nope nothing for days'

'Alright mate see ya'

And off they trot.
