Whats with all the fuss the police are kicking up about not getting their annual 2.5% pay rise and instead only getting 1.9%, roughly working out to 200 quid a year.
I think the average pay is 20-21k, starting as a PC.
Nurses are on around 18k,
and what i found more shocking is that soldiers are on around 14.5k.
(figures off the top of my head from a channel4 news report.)
It seems the police are voting on weather to end the no-strike deal.
I dont agree they have (or should have) the right to strike, as civil servants paid with taxpayers money. Also complaining of the conditions of the job. Surely when you wake up one morning and decide it would be a good idea to become a "Police Officer" you realise what you are becoming a part of.
On the other hand they are needed /shrug
Does anyone have any acurate rates of pay for Police/Nurses/Soldiers?
It seems to me if anyone is getting the short end of the stick, financially, its the squaddies... |

I doubt I could live on 21k and I am seriously considering the police force.
The Army wages are different they don't have to pay for a few things. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

The MOD still take a cut out for food/accommodation, its a shit wage when you look at the work/risks they have to do. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

This year Nurses (all NHS staff) got a 2.5% increase, but this wasn't backdated (in the same was as the police uplift won't be).
We got 1.5% backpaid to April and the remaining 1% from November.
Staff nurses pick up £19,683 but for specialities this can go up and ward management pushes it up another band again... so up to over £30k. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

Sorry but if i was a member of our fine policing force. I would be on strike now. IF the government dont regard one section of the agreement legally binding then in my eyes that makes the whole contract null and void, otherwise its not a contract. Which means i would be striking faster than the fire brigade.
Now i agree in that the police should not be able to strike. But if the goverment arent going to play ball then alls fair. Plus if theres no coppers that essentially means theres no one to catch me speeding or burning down speed cameras. ____________________ PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!!! | Hetzer wrote: | Didn't the MPs recently give themselves a big pay-rise? I seem to remember some sort of scam where they did most of it as expenses, to avoid accusations of exceeding the percentage. |
they gave themselves £10,000 expenses to educate the electorate about IT, and setup internet sites, this is the thread which got Siggi banned ,
Most of the MPs broke the rules and used them for propaganda the rule clearly states it is just to inform the electorate of politics and not to make political points. MPs ignored it , and were caught shrugging their shoulders and saying whatever.....
say while we are here this is mildly interesting
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/daily-food-allowance.jpg
it means children are worth less than soldiers,
soldiers are worth less than people in prison
everybody is worth less than MPs (worth less rather than worthless I might add).
I do recall an army cook who had 61p for ingredients to feed a soldier for a day, but if you have 100 soldiers thats £61, which isn't too bad especially if you buy bulk. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. It is one of your fundamental human rights (enshrined in law) to withold your labour. (anything less is tantamount to slavery)
Members of the police force signed away this right in their contracts of employment in exchange for a deal that both they and the government would abide by the agreements made via an independant adjudicator in the event of a pay dispute.
This mechanism was used and and agreement was obtained. The ENGLISH government (not the Scottish one I hope you'll all notice) has decided that they will actually modify this agreement to suit their own ends.
The police have a very valid argument that this puts their employer (the government in genral, the home office in particular) in breach of contract.
Meanwhile, Alex Salmond (the first minister of the SNP lead, Labour opposed Scottish parliament) must be sat in his office pissing himself laughing while handing out big fat cigars and brandy to his spin doctors for sucessfully making the entire UK government look like a bunch of tight-fisted, dishonest wankers. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. See here for Army rates of pay
https://www.army.mod.uk/servingsoldier/condofserv/mm/afprb__change_to_soldier_rates_of_pay.htm
I have been in the job 5 years and am a Corporal at Level 4 Higher Band (£28,622.16). This will be until April when I get my annual increase + move up to Level 5, yes thats 2 pay rises in 1 month
I also get an extra £500 a month for having to live in Germany and live off base. That makes my salary a touch under £35k.
Oh, I can also claim for going away on courses. I have been on three 4 week courses this year @ £300 claims per course.
Army wages arent that bad |

bah if anybody thinks the real rate of inflation is 2.5% they are deluding themselves,
the measure the government use doesn't include things like housing costs and tax.
ITS SUPPOSED to be a shopping basket of groceries but is filled with made in china electronics tat , anything is a risk to inflation it gets taken out the basket. You can bet bread , petrol , milk , beer (when it will alledgely hit £4 a pint in 08) will be taken out the basket and people will buy an IPOD a week!. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
