OK, last night I had a bath; I usually have them quite hot and sometimes overdo it and come out with a headache. Which is what I did last night.
So I go into my room and switch all the lights off and just rest and I seemed to have dozed off 'cos I woke up about an hour later and felt much better.
Then gradually this insane headache set in, like... especially on the left hand side of my skull. It was absolutely shit and I wanted to bash my head against a wall or chop my head off or anything just to get it to stop as I was trying to rest and get to sleep but I couldn't.
And then I started feeling really sick and kept hanging around between the toilet and my room before sitting down on the floor in the loo feeling on the verge of sickness with this horrendous headache.
So eventually, I was really violently sick, twice, until there was nothing left to throw up. I am only ever sick if I've drunk too much as generally I manage to stay away from illnesses. But even drunk sickness is not as violent as this.
So I dunno what the hell this was but it was just... really immensely horrible.
Whilst it was happening, I was thinking it could be a migraine? And my mum seems to think it is from what I explained to her. But I've never had migraines in my life before and I'm gonna be seriously pissed off if it's gonna start happening now.
I'm hoping it was just a one off thing, but, for me to be sick like that, it's just... I mean the last time I was sick like that where alcohol wasn't involved, I must have been around... maybe 12?
Any ideas so I can take measures to stop it happening again? I'm paranoid about getting another headache now, and today I don't feel very well.

Yep, that's a migraine.
There's two main types, one with an 'aura' which is where your vision will go slightly skew whiff (You might go slightly blind, for example, like you've stared at a bright light) and there's one without the aura.
I get the ones with the aura, I find that as soon as I get the aura I know I MUST get home ASAP, I find Solpadeine Plus really control them, I didn't have a migraine since I was 16 and suddenly got one a couple of months ago (at 23), took a Solpadeine and fell asleep, woke up with a throbbing head but the worst was gone.
I thought I'd gotten rid of them, but obviously not, It made me extremely paranoid for a couple of weeks, if I got caught by a bright light I'd start to get worried it was an aura.
Last time I had a proper one (Taking tablets and bedrest has helped me the last two times) I was sick 60 times, yes, I counted
The key really is bedrest, maybe a cold flanned over your eyes. They are the most horrific thing to experience and I know how impossible it is to explain just how much they hurt!
I've started carrying soluable painkillers in my wallet. Maybe something to think about?

Oh yeah a good one is Solpadol which is Codeine/Paracetomol 30mg/500mg
Had them when I got my tonsils out and I was absolutely off of my box, combined them with ibuprofen as well and I was just lying in bed giggling to myself, got hundreds in a box for future use

Thanks for the advice, Toby, that has helped.
I have just been doing some research on migraines and why they happen. I believe mine was a product of my current lifestyle where I'm not sleeping very well, the house currently has a very stressful atmosphere and I'm two weeks away from a huge life change; that being, moving away from my parents for the first time, and back to the other side of the world, to the UK, on my own, for an indefinite amount of time.
So I think the combination of stress, anticipation and lack of sleep were the cause. Also when I was in the bath, I was fidgety and moving around more than usual, sometimes standing up quickly to get something and this can not have been good for the blood flowing to and from my head especially in the heat.
I didn't get any of these auras though, there was no real warning sign that it was going to happen. There was a second in the bath where my perception of everything changed for a fleeting moment but I thought that was just due to being too hot.
I'm worried that now that one has started that it's opened the door for more to happen again, as I've been under far more stress than this before but not experienced a migraine until now. Does anyone know if migraines can be a one off, or if once they've started, that's it for life?
Also, for those of you with them, does it not affect your work? I can imagine that if this were to happen at work, then you'd need a day or two off, depending on the severity of it, which can't be good. And does it affect your job prospects, or do you not tell the employer until you're employed?
And what is the average space of time between them? I guess that varies from person to person though.
Sorry about all these questions, I just have a few concerns now! ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

It's totally random, you may have one, you may not.
I've never had a problem with work from migraines, I've only had about 6 in my life, they're not worth worrying too much over, I doubt you will start getting them frequently.
It's hard to pin down what causes them, I have no idea what causes mine.
As I said, strong painkillers and bedrest seem to do the trick for me.
I'd only need a day off of work, but it can vary with people, I have a background 'throbbing' for about 2 days afterwards, and I find the pain increases when I strain (Bend down or pick something heavy up) or shake my head. |

Run cooler baths......
A fellow staff member loved real hot baths, turned out to be the death of him..... He had a heart attack in the bath.

I got them with vision blur. Then I get a banging headache then the sick comes
Mine were due to lack of sleep and over eating of chocolate.
Paracetemol will help if you take them as soon as the effects come along.
EDIT: I've just read that you hadn't slept much. Best thing to do to avoid migraines I feel is aim for 8 hours of sleep a night. |

Thanks for all your advice.
I'm so paranoid about getting another headache now lol. Luckily I hadn't eaten much chocolate before it set in so thank feck I can rule that one out!
I did take some ibuprofen but far too late and just sicked them back up again.
Can't get over how nasty they are, feel shit for the people that get them frequently.
I'm gonna look into those Solpadol whatsits when I get home, just in case it happens again, but I hope to god it doesn't!
Cheers again, this thread has been extremely helpful, thanks. ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

No offence, but if you used to get headaches after having a hot bath, the clever part of you should be saying "perhaps I shouldn't have such a hot bath".
What is it with women and hot baths anyway? I hate them too hot especially when you feel your arsehole first touch the hot water, YEEEOOOUCHCHHH! Then the scrotum...... ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
