Hi

I am still with npower, my last employer. I will be changing soon as I have no wish to give them any more money ever again.

All the best

We are with Southern Electric. Looked on Uswitch and we are pretty much getting the cheapest we can, kudo's to our landlord he set it all up for us as well.

For the last quarter we had £130 bill for gas and £108 bill for electric.

Bear in mind that this is for 5 students, all cooking individual meals and heating on a lot of the day as it is an old victorian home and it isn't that bad really. We have to use the washing machine a lot as well.

I'm glad we don't have a meter as a house just down the road from us are putting in £20 a week in their gas meter and their house is freezing!

Rates on a meter are quite a bit higher than normal direct debit rates, or even receipt of bill rates.

Lots of things will bring the cost down. For example with electricity a 60W bulb on constantly will cost you about £13 a quarter on its own, compared to a 7W low energy bulb which would cost about £1.50 over the same time.

All the best

I'm with Powergen/Eon.

Seem to be quite cheap. About £30/month electricity, £15 gas.

We are in the process of changing from EDF Energy to Southern Electric as we speak.

Southern Electric are cheaper at the moment plus they will give us £50 off our energy bills for having their heating cover. That's free money. Thumbs Up

We have had four suppliers in the past five years we have been in this house. You have to keep on top of these things or they'll stuff you in a second!

Brick Wall Just spent half the morning on an 0845 number to Atlantic (Andy's supplier), about his £240 gas bill from August to November.

I TOLD those lads that the radiators were on ever so slightly during the summer, but would they listen? They would not!

I think he'll be getting a key meter Rolling Eyes

I'm still getting over the fact that despite me standing on the doorstep in a dressing gown and slippers with a streaming cold on a frosty December day, some stupid salesman tried to continue to sell me a British Gas account, regardless of the fact that I continued to insist that I already had one.

Fukkkkkkkkwits.

Which they had opened and decided to allocate to the woman upstairs (despite HER already having one) ... because the simpletons on the end of the phone have no idea how to tell the difference between flats numbered 17A and 17B at a property only numbered 17.

Grrrrrrrrr!

So they had to cancel my original account and reopen another one.

And as I have hardly been home since then to check my post, no doubt I now have TWO accounts thanks to the idiot doorstepper, and will have to start again and spend a fortune telling them about what bodge-ups they have managed to make.

And I STILL don't have a key for my gas account.

British Gas???? Don't even mention their name to me.

At least my electric key works properly like it should!

Eletric is around £7-£10 a week, I have been told we are on a high band and waiting for someone to come and have a look.

That isn't that high.

However with gas and electric meters remember that putting a token in the meter is not actually paying for the stuff. For example if you got given £1000 of tokens and used them you would get £1000 worth of gas / electric, but you would still owe the utility company £1000 for it.

What actually pays for it is buying the tokens. That sends back a record to your supplier that you have paid and the payment is set against your account.

As such the meter rate can be set far higher or lower than the unit price of the energy. Normally done to make up for someone being heavily in debt or credit.

All the best

How come that you can get cards for your electricity meter without giving your address then?

I know that shops are meant to take them down, but they very rarely do...

They should (more likely giving them your customer reference number or your MPAN / MPRN), because if they don't then you have just given the utility company a donation (or maybe just paid the utility bill of the person behind the counter).

All the best

With British Gas on their Dual Fuel thingymabob I pay 20 quid a month for Gas and 20 for Electric and after 7 months i'm in about 35quid worth of credit because i'm not using as much as anticipated.

My usage breaks down as this;

Gas heating 9 hours a day on a timer
Gas oven once a day.
Use a tankful of water for my daily bath and thats it.

When I was with British Gas they doubled my monthly bill without bothering to tell me. Firt I knew of it was when I noticed it on my bank statement. When I complained they said they had informed me via email. I said I hadn't recieved any emails from them and they said my spam filter had probably deleted it. They refused to refund the extra money, refused to lower the payment, despite me being in credit, and they were very abrubt with me and refused to apologise for taking payment without my permission.
As a result of that I switched to powergen who supply our electricity. British gas then tried it on again buy trying making up a meter reading for my final bill. It took me about 6 months before my meter actually ready what they claimed it did.
