Following on from st3v3's review for 125's.

Bike: Hyosung GT125 Comet 2003 Plate
V Twin 4 Stroke 125

These bikes are becoming more popular due to a number of reasons, Hyosung used to make parts for suzuki so arnt your average chinky company. They are starting to become a well known name in the motorcycle world.

When first sitting on the bike the first thing you notice is the size, it's basicly the same size as a Bandit 600(Uses the same frame as a GS500). With this also comes plenty of weight, 150kg (dry) so top that up to 180 with rider and fluids.

The weight is above average for a 125 ( Laughing ) but being a 4 stroke reliability is 100% and the engine can handle the weight. the 17L tank can take around £13-4 at todays price and this happily lasts me for the week.

Speed - I had an indicated 80mph out of my 03 with 4000Miles on a flat surface. Downhill you would possible get 90 but thats just cheating. Pulling away etc is probably the same as pulling away in a 1.0l corsa. Not going to wheelspin and drift around the corner but will get up to the speed of traffic with no problem. The main thing thats lets this bike down is the speed, unless your doing relativly decent speeds into corners the bike does not have the power to blast you out of the corners which is not as fun. By decent speeds I mean around entering a corner at 40-45, anything more than this and you dont feel that surge of speed when leaving the corner and winding the throttle on.

Handling - Due to the big tyres the bike is a dream to handle. It can be turned into a corner at a comfortable speed and will stick on the line no problem. Ive done the helmsley TT loads of times and the bike does handle well on all types of corners.

Acceleration - This is probably the worst part of the bike, due to its weight and power. The engine produces around 15bhp which is the highest (legal) power output someone on a CBT can use. I dont have any recorded times sadly.

Brakes - The bike has a single disk and 2 pot calipers as standard. They work well in the dry and have decent stopping poer but I feel they could be improved. Aftermarket pads would prob help.

Parts - This is another main problem with such a unknown make parts mainly have to be ordered from a dealer and can rarely be found second hand on ebay etc. This may improve when the make becomes more known and more people buy the bike. I was lucky that I had a local dealer a few miles away, although he was'nt the best it made things a lot easier. My dealer was VFM Scooters in Middlesbrough (TS5). There is also another main dealer at Leeds.

Restriction - The bike comes un-restricted at standard and has no need to be restricted, being a 4t 125 the bike is more about reliability than pure speed.

Accesories - Quite a few companys are starting to make accesories for Hyosung, exhausts being the most common along with screens.
The market will be ever growing so no doubt the amount of accesories available will only rise.

I bought the bike in Feb 2007 I think and paid £800, this was with 2k miles and in good condition with a light scratch on the rear panal and a scratch in the exhaust (Low speed spill). Ive just sold it in Late december with 4k on the clock and a small dent in the tank + origional damage for £700. Ive spent money on tires and that was the only consumable ive had to replace.

Cheers, Eddy

I doubt it would be the same size as a bandit and bandits are considerably bigger than than a GS

I've owned both and ridden both I've had both a bandit 600 and 650, if the hyosung is same frame as the GS it is not going to be the same size as a bandit the GS is so much smaller.

What about things like tank and side panels? they all add to the height of a bike.

Im not sure if it uses the exact frame or a similar but ive heard its the exact one. Although a GS and bandit may be different sizes the comet prob has wider panals and a higher tank which gives the impression it is much bigger.

Lol, he said including rider. It'll be about 1.5 litres of oil which is about 2 kilos, a couple of litres of water and a bit of fuel. It won't be a 30 kilo jump.

Yeah, that about covers it. Wink

Owner of the GT125R always sing it's praises, the Japanese loyalists will say they aren't great.
Will never be as fast as a 2-stroke sports though, will be more on par with CBR125 and YZF125.

Wasn't that the time when fuel was about £1.10 - £1.17 per litre?

You say you got 80mph out it? Ive got one and i can get it to 70 on the straight but 80 is a push even downhill with the wind behind me.

Yes i agree fantastic bike and ive had it for over a year now. Looks great and runs like a dream and I have fairly racked th miles up.
