Hi Im looking at a k2 600 Bandit with 71000 miles on the clock

apparently it had the cam chain, valve clearances ect done
and the seller says it feels smooth and reliable, but im still not sure it seems a very high milage for a not very old bike.

What do you guys with the knowledge think? is the milage much of a problem or may it be a time bomb?

Cheers Thumbs Up

I wouldn't touch it with a pole if it was costing anything over a few quid. If somebody gave it to me for nothing I might take it and sell it's bits on eBay.

Ex-Courier bike?

Seems rather high for a 6y/o bike! Shocked

Works out that its done about 14,000+ a year.

I would have thought that at 71,000 it will be very tired. Things like the suspension, bushes and bearings will all be well on their way to needing attention and money spending on them. There is a lot more to a decent bike than a smooth engine.

If its a courier bike surely the courier would be bankrupt, I cram about 30-40K on a year , during the summer nights night riding is quite good,

Anyway it its got 71K don't pay much for it,

But I found with the NTV this is around the mileage things that aren't consumables start to become consumables, ie fork bushes need changing IME every 40K , thus the Bandit'll need them in 9 K, Clutches it depends on use , plastics wire surrounds and rubber hoses start to perish over time etc..

Noooo £1400 , should be like £500ish , maybe £700 tops IF he can prove ALL of the work has been done,

infact thinking about it Kickstart said bandit valves need to be done every 8K and thus it is due for valves in 1K time, and again at 80K.

(NTV valves say the service manual are to be done every 24K but I do them at 16K).

at 70K you should have a thick folder full of recipts.....

History is everything with high milage bikes. Sure the engine can take the milage, but you need to be sure everything has been sorted on it and it has been looked after.

Price seems on the high side Shocked , have a look elsewhere at what you can get at that price.

I've seen '99 bandits with 10k miles for 1400-1600 so i think you can do far better on a much less run in one.

I bought a 82,000 miles ZZR1100 for £400. Too much money especially for the 600. Half-that would be ok since a spare engine would cost~£150-200. As above, the running-gear will be pretty shagged though.

'Happy New Year From Bandit Racing'

a.k.a Guess what we used to race on...

Personally there is better out there, why get a heavily used one with new bits when you can get a less used one with new bits for probably cheaper.

Hi

Does look clean, and I would not be 100% about the mileage (that rear sprocket looks a bit large, so the speedo might be reading high), but definatly too much money.

All the best

Keith

From just looking at the photos, it seems to be missing the bar ends? I'd ask why.

Mirrors are missing too??

And why does it still have its original exhaust, which looks immaculate, considering its age and mileage! As bandits are known to have shoddy exhausts which rust in a matter of months if not looked after and one wouldn't last 71k/6 years like that!

Makes alarm bells ring to me, like has been said above its probably been raced? But by a stupid racer, cos most disconnect the speedo!!

Hi

Doubt it would have been raced. Say 6 lap races and maybe 2 mile laps. Would mean thousands of race meetings.

It has mini indicators, chopped up mudguard and missing bar ends. Just suggests someone chopping it up to make it "look better".

All the best

Keith
