For example...you're turning right at a junction. A car coming from the left stops and lets you in.

The best way i imagine is to raise your left hand just after you've set off, like you would in a car, but i find this too hard as i'm slowly releasing the clutch with my left hand.

Another option is to raise your left hand just before you begin to set off, but this is time consuming as you have to bring your hand back down to pull the clutch in.

At the moment ive been setting off to make the turn, then when ive completed the turn and in the lane (with the kind person behind me who let me in) i raise my left hand to say thanks. This worries me though as they might not have seen me say thanks and think i'm an ungrateful git.

I normally just give a big nod, though before I got into biking and was driving cages I normally assumed bikers were appreciative but just couldn't always show it!! Laughing

I now know I was right. Thumbs Up

Nod and a thumbs up or a salute in case they don't register the nod.

i just pull the brake lever in half an inch 3 times so the rear light flashes, i tried other methods like above but this one seems easier imho.

Depends:

If light, nod.
If dark, flash brake light.
If dark and above not option, flash left then right indicators simultaneously.

Yeah in the first instance I'll nod, and if it's safe I'll raise my left-hand, those that move over when I'm filtering always get the thumbs-up as I really appreciate that.

I nod or stick my left hand out, depending on situation, but I always make the effort to say thanks.

I usually nod and sometimes wave if I've got a free hand. I quite often find I'll get a nod back of lots of car drivers too. Remember one time a youngish girl nodding back then just pulling a face that said "I can't believe I just nodded to some random biker"

it allways makes me chuckle when you nod to say thanks and they nod back. People that move over when overtakeing or filtering get a Thumbs Up from left hand, and allways nod when i cant use my hands.

if someone did the brakelight thing to me i wouldn't get that... all the truck drivers do the indi's when you let them out.

Left hand up for me, once the pull away is complete, making sure they can't miss it. If they see I'm grateful, they're more likely to do it for the next biker.

Cheers

It's weird most truckers I've seen do the left right left indicators and not hazards. Yet lots of car drivers seem to do hazards?
