Where can I get this helmet?,
see the picture of me looking silly, this was at the Manchester bike show which no doubt some of the
noof group will report on later.
https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=54737
Where can I get such a helmet? ,
the closest I can find is
Linky
which costs £12 , considering the one at the bike show was £70 , AND had some helmet safety standards decal'd onto
the back of the helmet , I am guessing that these are not the same, risk my head in a £12 helmet ? (yeah ok my
nitro did cost this amount but is a recognised brand which has passed safety standards.
Anybody any thoughts? , Or should I just go the whole hog and buy a proper vietnam era USAF phantom/helicopter
pilot helmet?
Any thoughts?
Ta
EDIT I should have bought it at the bike show but was informed I could buy them online and on the ride home thought hmm the built in ear defenders are a bit nifty and will be ideal for hooking up a bike to bike radio for touring purposes (I reckon I can spare the space for a second helmet on tour). ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Unfortunately there is still a small minority of people who ride motorbikes that are surprisingly not having a midlife crisis and spend all there hard earned on the actual bike. Thus leaving you with sometimes a pittiful 50-150 on a helmet.
How foolish are we? Without the top designer gear
A little more on topic. I have an HJC CS-12 lid, cost me £60. Have crashed twice. The 2nd was bad enough to write off a bike and break my wrist. Both times the lid didn't really touch the ground at all. You're hardly bouncing along the ground on the lid are you?
This argument is all swings and annoying roundabouts. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

A helmet that fits you well is worth every penny that you spend on it, which might be fifty quid or four hundred. If for no other reason than once it's on your head, you don't want to think about it again till you take it off. An ill fitting helmet will annoy the hell out of you after a couple of hours, and be damned distracting.
When you go shopping for a helmet, do your best to not look at prices, but to try on loads till you get THAT fit, then do your utmost to afford whatever it costs.
From my experience of picking up the pieces of innumerable bike casualties (and I do mean pieces), any helmet will protect you from loads of (most) impacts, but there will always be an accident that is going to kill you no matter how good the lid is. And incidentally, I've seen plenty of motorcycle deaths from torso trauma as opposed to head. ____________________ It is not enough to win, others must fail.

I've taken itty bitty steps to eventually getting an arai and sorry to use an old cliche - once you've got one, you wont go back! Sure, they're not the lightest of all lids, sure the visor change mechanism may piss people off, but damn is it comfortable, snug, secure and i actually feel safe and encased in it. Good vision, efficient (if not too efficient) venting, no problems when anti fog (got pinlock in clear and fog city in tint) installed. The fit and comfort come second to none.
My chin isn't exposed like on my shoei. My temples aren't pressed unlike on my old HJC. The helmet is balanced so you don't get any muscle strains, unlike on my kbc.
Now, what i'm saying is that the other helmets i've used were all flagship models of their respective brands at one point (bar the XR1000), but they were about £200. The couldn't hold a candle to the flagship of the big 5 (Arai, Shoei, Suomy, AGV, Shark)
The HJC AC10 - worn by glen richards
The KBC AR-1 - worn by Mat Mladdin and Fonsi Neito at one point
I know it takes some justification for people to get a top of the range flagship helmet, but i cannot emphasise the technology, testing and advancements they have in the products - so if you're a shark man, get the RSR-2, if you're shoei, get the X11, if you're a suomy man, get the Extreme, if you're a arai, then it's pretty obvious get the Corsair.
Having said that, the next range down won't be THAT much different, but it was more than enough for me to notice the difference between the XR-1000 and corsair. Now imagine if I stuck my head in a takachi!
Not flaunting or showboating, but if you value your head, spend your money. £400 may be a lot for a helmet, but so is a lifetime eating out of a straw and having cerebral damage. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
