At some point in the nearish future I'm going to be needing to rent a van, to move.

Now Ideally I want to rent something pretty big with a tail lift. It seems that from most of the van rental places their smallest tail lift jobby is a 3.5T luton van.

Do I need category C on my licence to drive one of these? I have cat A, B, B1, f, k, p on my driving licence.

Any license will cover you for a 3.5-tonner.

So if its under 3.5 Tonnes then you can drive it on Cat B, over and its Cat C1.

A Luton with tail lift with probably be 3.5t if it's van based, if it's based on a truck style cab, or the rear axle has double wheels it's probably 7.5t. Anything up to 3.5t you can drive on a car licence, just ask the hire place you want a 3.5t with tail lift.

yes as pheonix says, ask the hire place

Most places will have 3.5T lutons with tail lift.

its c1 for 7.5T

and B means anything up to 3.5T

pheonix knows, as he drives big lorries, and i know, as i used to be a recruitment consultant for lorry drivers

When I was in primary school the teachers always asked us what we wanted to be when we were older. Some would say astronauts, others firemen or policemen.

But there was one kid whos dreams far surpassed ours, the bright young star in the corner, with ambition and imagination.

His name was Colin.

His dream?

To be a recruitment consultant for lorry drivers.

i got the push, partly cos its quiet after xmas, they had kept me on a bit longer than they normally would someone who is in the probationary period, to cover the xmas busy period.

They took on two of use, and the other guy was better than me, so they kept him and ditched me.

On the up side, ive done quite a bit of sorting my house out, and ive still got cash to go off to thailand or something if i want, and i may well do it.
