i read on the internet that doing wheelies is bad for the engine?

due to lack of oil going in the engine...

i can see why and how sort of but is it true ?

if it is then why do bikers do it if its not good for the engine ?

i would love to be able to do it but i dont want to run the risk of the engine starving for oil.

the oil will be sat away from the gears ect and not be spread as far.
it is dangerous, but isnt everything.
best bet is dont do it for sustained periods of time.
(and on a private road of course Twisted Evil )

your steering head bearings will take a hammering aswell unless you can land smoothly.

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

I can count on one hand how many times i've landed smoothly. wheelies are harsh for a bike, if you value it dont do them.

your fork seals tend to blow aswell, best to land them on full throttle, and with the front wheel spinning, or it can get messy

Depends how long you keep the front end up for. The usual wheelie won't do anything to the engine but if you plan keeping it up for a few hundred yards you will get problems. Even then it will take a while. The gearbox/clutch/chain takes more stick from the ham fisted attempts.

As mentioned, the problem comes from longer wheelies. On some bikes, the oil pickup is further forward that on others. When it's nearer the front of the bike, the oil may pool below the pickup and so not be distributed the rest of the engine, starving it of lubrication in longer wheelies.

Learn to do wheelies properly, then Wink. If you start out trying to do them kindly you don't have to harm the bike any more than a few miles extra of normal riding.

I am still learning but weather and tyre doesnt permit me too, i can keep it balanced but soon run out of power and with my fubar'd gearbox i cant hit 2nd gear without it jumping out.

You need to get higher if you're running out of power Smile.

Try and keep an idea of what the revs are and put it down before you run out of revs, so you've still got some for a softer landing.

Cheers, once the engine is fixed/transplanted which ever comes first i will start again. Also gunna fit a new set of BT90's maybe some GPR's i dunno yet, my rear tyre is crap atm it wont hold heat or heat up no grip at all.
