I've been watching Tenacious D's film 'Pick of Destiny'.

So, you've been challenged to a rock-off by the devil and if you lose, you become Satans 'bitch' and "Gargle mayonaise for eternity".

You have a choice of ANY band and piece of rock music with which to defeat the devil and blow his sorry arse back to hell. Who do you choose and what do you get them to play?

My choice would be either Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills" or Deep Purple "Child in Time" (the full vesion with Ritchie Blackmores guitar solos and the longest and highest period of sustained wailing in the history of the world.)

Iron Maiden
Deep Purple
Tenacious D rock-off

The riff, while extremely tasty, is a Rainbow track speeded up and 30 years later. (Blackmore again). Fair do's though, it would send satan home to bed with a headache.

An option but I doubt the Lord of Darkness would be blown apart. The guitar licks aren't quite enough to rip parts of his body away in the wind they create. I suspect their Amps do not go up to 11. Youre arse would be taking a pounding as we speak.

The Pantera track, while extremely heavy. I don't get the feeling that they really MEAN it. For example I didn't see a single pelvic thrust and their eyes are open. There is however just enough guitar wanking to keep the evil one at bay for a time.

Ministry. The initial length of the track is highly promising. If I were gathering soles to torment, I would be intimidated. Do not however fall into the trap of thinking rock is the same thing as metal. Noone is caressing the neck of their guitar in the same way as they would make love to a beautiful woman. Capturing the power of your guitar in the palm of your hand (while avoiding writing a ballad) is the road to defeating bealzebub.

Ramstein would indeed repell the devil as their totally blank approach to rock makes them a sinister and unappealing target. Rumour has it they have no soul anyway. Ramstein would dismantle the Devil in the same way as one would dismantle an engine, as opposed to shredding him with the power of their riffs.

To be honest, ministry and rammstein are really techno in disguise wearing metals clothes, but they still kick ass.

For a bit of old school rock, its gotta be ACDC.

maybe some TNT might do the job

although for sheer swagger, back in black might be the thing

but then thunderstruck packs a punch

maybe we need the undiluted strength of an ACDC 3 hit combo

Anything from John Schaffer (lead guitarist) of Iced Earth would probably leave Satan's asshole smoking.

Into Eternity is a damned interesting band, with a pretty phenomenal guitarist. Too bad it's so hard to pick out the guitars with Youtube's crap audio. One more.

Lamb of God are also pretty good for guitars.

As are Avenged Sevenfold. Not their newest song, but if you've seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... And their guitarist thinks every song need a solo. Fine by be.

Lil' Bloodred Riding Hood - Children of Bodom (Infact, anything by Children of Bodom - Lexi knows how to weild an axe)

Battery - Metallica

Du Hast by Rammstein is not the best song you could have chosen - I would say Feuer Frei or Kuss Mich would be alot better.

Revolution is My Name - Pantera

Heretic Anthem - Slipknot (Though the devil might dig the subject matter Laughing)

Something abit less heavy but still relentless - Freebird - SO MANY SOLOS!

Take any of the best guitarists and let them freestyle and thats about the best music ever! Very Happy

Cool as fook topic Stinky Mr. Green

I don't suppose anything by Genesis would do... Rolling Eyes

In that case, probably Powermad's Slaughterhouse.

Thumbs Up

Tenacious D - the pick of destiny is quite possibly the worst film I've ever been to see at the cinema.

Also, Run To The Hills is probably my least favourite Iron Maiden track. Its on a par with Rhyme of the ancient mariner IMO.

The best for a rock off though is quite clearly two minutes to midnight, as it has some of the hardest riffs and one of the best intros in chrisendom.

Alternatively Whicker man, Hooks in You, Fear Of The Dark, Still Life, Can I play with madness?, Invaders, Killers, or Prowler might fit the bill...

For pure shredding prowess i'd nominate zakk wylde, particulary 'in this river' from the last dvd - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkU-7yzD2ZM

For sheer kick ass metal i'd say metallica, enter sandman. yes, it might be their most 'famous track, but it sure does fuckin rock Cool

I wait, I hate
Silence kills you like a loaded gun
My time, you waste
Resolution turn your back and run
Drunk with power
Your ivory tower
Never stood, never could
And around and around
You hit the ground
Reservation hellbound

Pwnd Thumbs Up

"Shield For Your Eyes, a Beast in the Well on Your Hand" by Melt Banana. I think that might do the job. Glitch guitars and a bassline that rolls better than a schoolbus in an episode of "THE A-TEAM"? Awww yeah. Until it got to the 'singing'. But that might floor him in terms of unexpectedness. Thinking

That song is worth it just for the noises Ichirou makes at 3:12 and 3:54.

Listened to every song on here, besides a fair few more.

But If i had to choose just one song, to beat that Red Bastard back to the hell from whence he came, it would have to be something of such beauty, such oomph, that satans arsehole would shed a small tear for it.

Recorded Version

Live Version (even better - you can see the shredding... Drooling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULEBSxP725w&feature=related

Eruption - Eddie Van Halen

Satan could fear nothing more than this.

Except perhaps Chuck Norris. But thats neither here nor there.

I think with Clive Burr (pre illness) on Drums, Bruce Dickinson singing, Eddie Van Halen, Slash and the ghost of Hendrix on guitars and probably Mark King from Level 42 on bass, that 'ole satan might have a bit of an issue... Wink
