My mums subaru's really getting on a bit so she's planning on a new car.

Has to be a diesel estate/people carrier, Around £6k

I was thinking of a 1.9 TDI VW Passat but other than ebay, Dont know where to look.

Suggestions? Smile

If you must have a VW estate, then get a Skoda Octavia - cheaper, better build quality and a bigger boot than the Passat. I had one till the family outgrew it (guy at work now has it). Brother-in-law is on his 3rd and is very happy.

I had a mazda 5 over the festive period as a hire car, although it was a 1.8 petrol version, there is a 2.0 Diesel variant.

Initial thoughts was, 'oh no not a people carrier' (i was supposed to get a small hatchback but avis had run out). Surprisingly it was actually a very nice car to drive, nice roomy interior with some nifty little features (flip down trays at the back, seats upto 7 people). Was much nicer than the golf plus i swapped it for. The handling was pretty light and easy and has sliding back doors which made getting in and out the back was dead easy in a packed car park. Externally its not that big (probably about as wide and long as a standard family car) and also looks pretty sporty.

I'd probably buy one if i ever needed to.

edit: it looks cracking in black

I'd suggest a VW Touran. We've currently got a Golf estate and a SEAT Alhambra, both 19TDi, and the Touran is probably the next car we'll get when it's time to replace one, as it'll give us the best of both worlds.

A friend did have a lot of problems with the turbo though, it had to be replaced a number of times. Might have just been his driving style Smile

Daft as it sounds a Rover 75 2 ltr estate fantastic build quality and really good fuel consumption around 45 to 50 to gallon at legal speeds.
Because of Rovers clash a couple of years ago prices really decent for youngish models and loads of spare parts still available as the chinese gear up to reproduce at Longridge
