hi all,
i might have managed to persuade my mate to get back into biking, after a short break.
hes over 21,
he got his cbt in may 2006
so he has to sit his big bike test before may 2008 right?
he only has provisional licence but was learning to drive & had bought a cheap car for when he passed his test.
but temptation got the better of him & he went out in said car, with a couple of dickheads, none of whom had a full licence.
so pulled over by traffic cops for dodgy brake light, given 7 day slip.
& sent on his way.
anyway went to court & got 5 points & a fine.(could have been a lot worse, so i reckon he got off lightly)
so he is now wondering : 1- if he passes his big bike test will he still have those 5 points(for purpose of new drivers act 6 points rule)
question 2 -as he got 5 points for having no insurance,(conviction code IN10) will he get hammered by insurance companies when he goes to insure his bike, once he passes test?
hes of the opinion, it might be better to wait untill points are removed(had them for a year & a half) then start again by doing DAS, but i reckon bike test will be harder &/or he will be restricted so he should do his das now.
sorry for such long post,
anyone any advice?
cheers,
GAZ

when i passed my test my speeding points were carried over

driving with no insurance will get him raped by insurance companies.

you only get 6 point for the first 2 years though so he will have to be careful

Yes and yes.

He can't get another point, so if he gets done for ANYTHING he will get revoked.

Sorry, but how did he get only 5points? did he appeal? Driving without no insurance is a fixed penalty of 6pts and a fine of £200. If anything, his license should be getting revoked for that..

No license to be revoked, he's on a provisional, you can't revoke a provisional.

And I think he went to court, court's don't give out fixed penalties, it's up to the judge, but they have guidelines.

Indeed, often they will give 1 less point than required to disqualify.

You only get one driving licence, you just get different catagories of entitlement

The points apply to his entire licence not the entitlement.

He screws up and gets anymore points before they are removed or the two year probation period is up, then his licence will be revoked under the New Driver law.

The question is can he deal with being on a 125 until then, can he ride a bigger bike without picking up anymore points or is he willing to retake is test if he gets it revoked.
