Am thinking of doing abit of a trip this year and visiting, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Ukraine.

Whats it like out there? Any suggested places to visit?

Cheers

It was nice enough for Gaz and family to move out thereand open a bike shop , as the money they'd bring from over here to over there would allow them to live quite well.

Although time of course would erode this.

Travel there a fair bit.

Nice people, cheap, good food etc, Slightly corrupted coppers, Make sure you have a bit of cash on you for when the speeding fines magically appear. They definitely look out for foreign number plates. The fines are not excessive and are open to negotiation. If you travel the same route on a regular basis then tell them, saves being stopped every day.

Thanks for the geography lesson, but you stand corrected:

Wikipedia wrote:
The UN definition considers Eastern Europe to consist of the following ten countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia (a transcontinental country), Slovakia, Ukraine.

One thing I will say though is it depends on who you are and how old you are. Cos if you were born after 1989 you won't have heard of the Iron Curtain and Eastern Bloc countries, cos you'd have had to pay attention in school for that.

Yeah, we can do this all day. I would argue that Eastern Europe existing as non-geographical label to contain any and all ex-soviet blocs is now an outdated and inefficient way of classifying states. The Iron Curtain fell quite some time ago; dividing Europe into "Friendly"/West and "Aggressive"/East is silly.

You trust something the Americans wrote? Laughing

Most Americans think the UK is the 51st state for gods sakes!
Anyway, not letting my thread go off topic, do you have anything constructive to say or are you just wanting an argument over definitions of what you consider to be Eastern Europe?

Depends.

Do you like culture, history, great scenery, good prices?

Or do you think anywhere that isn't styled the same as the UK/USA to be shite?

If you are one of the people who hate going somewhere that isn't full of familiar brands and shops, then don't bother Rolling Eyes

I won't bother. Smile
I'd love a place with no brands & shops but Eastern Europe, from what i've seen doesn't do it for me. Especially Russia.

I'm personally looking forward the Czech Republic myself, its all mostly historic.

And its the history I am interested in, its got such a checkered past and looks beautiful from the pictures I've seen.

And the good beer and beautiful women are an attraction too!

Just so you know you'll still be ugly and have no personality in eastern europe, you'll just have foreign women rejecting you instead of British ones.
