Had a bit of a search but couldn't find a similar thread, so 'scuse me if there is..

Right, This question is for the short/petite/small girls (i.e under five foot, and maybe a bit above)- or blokes with petite female friends/other halves. What bike do you (or they) ride/ have ridden?

I am under five foot and fluctuate around 7 stones but really love bikes and wondered if i could ever own/handle a nice 600cc or something even bigger dare i think about it.. looking to get a CBR125 next month as my first bike (currently scoot around) as its reliable, small, and light.

So girls (or blokes with female friends/ other halves), just wanted to know how many short a$$es out there can handle meaty two wheelers (for a bit of personal inspiration and hope!)

Thanks in advance!

I know of a few shorter girls who have ridden the SV650 quite easily, albeit with a cut-down seat to make it a little lower...

I'm 5' 1", short inside leg (28")

I rode a CBR125 which I could toe/ball of foot comfortably both sides.

Now ride a CBR400 which I can flat foot easily both sides.

For me it's a combination of bike weight (for when parking etc), seat height and also seat width (which makes a lot of difference on the 400 - it's pretty narrow.)

You can get modern 600's etc lowered with shocker kits/moulded seats etc, but these can end up quite pricey. But I have seen some shorter folk very happy with their lowered bike.

Some people say it's mind over matter and you don't need to be able to touch the floor - for example my mate is only an inch taller than me, she rides a Firestorm and used to have a 'Blade - both bikes I wouldn't dream of trying to ride because of the height/weight.

Mind you, she is quite scary and flings heavy bikes about effortlessly like they're made of cardboard!!! Shocked

Just thought, your (lack of) weight could also be an issue - I guess you might need heavily adjusted suspension to compensate. Thinking

5' and a half, seven stone (maybe a bit over thanks to Christmas), currently ride CBR400 and a Bros 400. I'd be fine on a Bros 650 too. I have ridden a GSXR400 GK73a an NSR125RK and a number of training school 125s.

As feef says, An SV650 would probably be ok too as are 03 R6, an R1 would be ok at a push.

Some of the older 'curvy' ones feel bigger because the tank is a lot wider.

A narrow tank is essential Laughing

Almost 27 inches, and yes I have to take up every pair of trousers I buy Smile

I struggle at 5 ' 8" , i'm a 30" leg.

The thing is I got used to riding the ER5, which I can flat foot with ease, its not the case on the Z. At a real push I can, everyone says they just manage with one foot, but I can't

woah quite a range of bikes there... I did some manual training on a CG125 (which i didnt think i would be confident on) managed to toe it on one side only and the day went brilliantly... managed u-turns (and figure 8's- just!) and all... but i did drop it twice that day... I assume the weight thing will be something you get used to?

My Scooter is just under 100kgs and i have only dropped it once while trying to park so if the CBR is ~20kgs more, im hoping it won't be too long before i get used to it...

better get weight training for my future 1300cc.... heh heh..

my inside leg is also about 27 inches.. and as for clothes... i'll be starting a new thread for that when i look into leathers!

There's a lass in my club "Weeze" (Louise). She is maybe 4'11" and of average build.

She rides a ZX7R which has been lowered with the saddle and sidepanels removed.

She preferred her old ZZR600 though (similar, lowered, minus saddle).

I saw an oriental lass this summer who would be about 5'1" riding a CCM supermoto which is a HUGE bike. She got on it by standing on the left of the bike, putting her left foot onto the peg, snicking it into first and moving away standing on that peg. As she got moving, she swung her leg up and over the saddle.

She tried to stop next to a kerb but otherwise she would swing her arse off the saddle and tip the bike way over to one side to put a foot down. She was REALLY good at slow riding.

Yeah but like every other 400, you shock is shagged. I think this is why shorties like myself find 400's more comfortable than 125s!

I have a bandit which although I've dropped a couple of times on adverse road cambers but to be fair the height isn't that bad.

Had an RVF, and NC24, currently have an NC30, no problemo.

sat on GSXR 6 and 750 and could touch the floor fairly comfortably, same with the new CBR6 however not ridden them but I'd be happy enough on them.

I'm ok on 125 crossers mainly as well. Also the RS125 is fine.

I'm 5 foot 4.

A lass I went to Uni with, called Shelly, was given a Dominator by her brother. She was about 5ft and used to vault off it at traffic lights and then do as above, except she used to vault back on at standstill before pulling away.

Most impressive but she dropped it loads in learning how to do it.

Cheers

Charlotte has tried them, and she is a couple of inches over 5' tall. Not a hope in hell. They are not that low, and the seat is wide.

You don't so much get used to the weight as learn not to lean the bike when you are holding it. Perfectly upright it could weigh a couple of tons and not be a problem.

All the best

It's all about confidence and balance. Some people have this in spades and can ride anything that they can get so much as a ballet-shoe-toe down on, some of us are a little more cautious (ie scared!) of our bikes and need at least one flattish foot to feel safe.

I'm 5'1 with a 26" inside leg and my legs are also fat which makes them comparatively even shorter. Sad I do have a weight advantage over you though as I weigh nearly twice as much! Embarassed I'm also quite a nervous rider still.

I currently have a 400 Zephyr that I have had the seat lowered and narrowed on. Riding it is fine but I have to be a bit careful where I stop and VERY careful where I get on and off - I have dropped it from a standstill once trying to get it off the stand and have been known to head for the nearest kerb for mount/dismount purposes on more than one occasion.

The lowest sports bike I have found so far is the VFR400, but personally I don't like the riding position.

I was also OK on a Bandit 400 but the 600 was waaay to tall.

Agree with Keith about the SV650, a friend of mine had one that had been lowered and I was still miles away from the floor when I tried to sit on it.

Had a couple of DAS lessons on a GS500 with a cut-down seat, again riding was OK but I dropped it at a standstill because of an unexpected camber in the road. Sad

What style of bike do you like? If you are into or at least don't mind cruisers the market opens up a lot wider for you. My other current bike is a VS800 Suzuki which is a hefty beast but so easy to ride because it's all well-balanced and my feet are flat on both sides. Ignore the people who say they don't go round corners.......... Wink mine does............

best thing to do is to go around the dealers ans shows and sit on as many bikes as you can. See what feels comfortable and take it from there. Thumbs Up

Confidence:i personally think I have TOO MUCH of (gotta gimme something for the lack of height! Laughing ) I, shamefully, ride my scooter like it's a motorbike (don't tell anyone though)

Style of bike: not so much into the custom/cruisers as 1) they are rather wide, 2) i spend 70% of my time on the bike filtering though commuter traffic and 3) could not picture myself on a cruiser.... although they look soo comfortable.

Have started to look around dealers and sit on bikes, will def. do this more. But interesting to hear what other shorties ride... thanks guys Thumbs Up

Not really wider. Probably narrower, just no real effort in keeping the wide bits higher up

I find the opposite. That kind of riding position gives me back ache. Everyone is different, but try one and you might be surprised.

All the best
