Found in the October issue of Canadian Biker mag:
"in what is probably the 1st reported case of a Honda Gold Wing airbag deployment in a traffic accident, it seemed to work as designed, if not better. In late June, a Florida resident Lou O'Connell ran into the right side of a Nissan 350Z that pulled out of a parking lot and directly in front of him. O'connell escaped with minor bruises, despite the fact he was not wearing a helmet. Florida repealed its helmet laws in July 2000."

I've flipped a stoppy with no helmet, jacket and maybe gloves and comeaway unharmed without airbags!!!

There was a similar story about someone else who crashed their goldwing and wasn't very hurt, thanking the airbag for saving their life. From the impact described, I doubt very much in the prior case they would have been killed either; probably just trying to justify to themselves their great choice of spending lots of money on a fancy-gadgeted bike.
