Firstly, thanks to all you chaps who gave advice in the other thread, it was very helpful in making a choice.

I bought a Shogun today. A 1995, fully-loaded 3.5 V6 DOHC with 78k on the clock. Gasoline engine, never had a towbar fitted, was up at £2695, got it for £2400. Jesus, what a beast! Shocked

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220189828315&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D220189828315%26fvi%3D1

See those lights on the front? Night into day! Laughing

Shed-loads of electric dooberies to play with, features up the ying-yang. I had it in 4WD all the way home. £76 to fill the tank, I got 165 miles to half of it. Then I read the manual, it'll do more in 2WD mode.

It's in immaculate condition, inside and out. The auto gear-shift position lights under the lever stopped working on the way home (Neutral light stays lit regardless of the lever position), and the ABS light came on for a while, but apart from those niggles/possible issues everything works perfectly. No spare key either, so I'll need to order one.

Seems like a hell of a lot of car/truck/tank for the money. What do ya'll reckon?

Meh.

I have gone off of 4x4's since owning 4.

Eat to much petrol and lack the fun of a fast saloon/coupe/hatchback.

Its nice to sit above every one and feel safer, but I want fast and handling again.

Whats the handling like in that thing. Do you feel detached from it or do you get to actually feel what your doing ?

I felt it was time to increase the size of my carbon footprint, and lessen the survivability odds of any children I hit with the bullbars. Hence "four-wheeled scum". Whistle

I dunno, I guess I just got sick of the weeny 1.6 engine in the Mondeo and all it's niggling faults. Bless it, it's been a solid motor (and still is).

I used to have one of them.

Thirsty bugger, although does sound brilliant when you kick down and with the transmission in power mode and let the revs climb to 5,000 RPM.

That one looks in lovely condition there Hetz, although I see the lack of a tow bar as a negative (there's not a lot it won't tow), got similar sized lamps on the front to the ones I had, were brilliant for people who refused to dip their headlights. Laughing

Over time an LPG conversion will definitely pay for itself, when I got mine converted it took just under a year to get the costs back. Filling the petrol tank hurts.

Only criticism I of the model as a whole is that servicing the thing is a real pain the butt, as the spark plugs are well and truly buried.

As a side note, was that plate included, if so that could be worth something (possibly).

I'll have a dig around see if I've still got any of the spares left for it, you may as well have them as I've no longer got mine.

After doing some research it became apparent that ones used to tow stuff suffer serious wear (rear shocks, drive-train and suchlike), so I considered the absense of a towbar to be encouraging.

The plate was already on it. I have thought about getting in touch with some sock-company CEOs. Laughing

LPG is definitely under consideration, after I've had it for a while and know it's not about to blow up.

And any spares would be greatly appreciated. Thumbs Up

All you need now is a trailor and a DIRT BIKE!
The Shogun will be ideal for the school run though.

There's a muddy field at the campsite for a very good offroad pay and play day at the end of the month. Wink It's op norf but its also meant to be the best offroad site in the country, bit of a drive but well worth the trip.

Muddy stuff is what they're meant for, be worth giving it a go once to try it. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

hetzer seems a bit flush. new motor, new leathers

ive been looking at cars myself of that age, cos of that age you can put them on classic car insurance. No problems with no no claims bonus as classic car insurance doesnt work that way.

is that what you have done ?

No, I got my Mondeo insurance changed as I was being driven to pick up the panzer. Lost 11 months of no-claims (had a month left on the Mondeo), but that counts for only a few quid anyway. TPFT cost £299, the panzer is group-16 ins. Shocked
