I am going to put 2 1gb sticks of RAM in my dad's mac mini, I'm planning on using the method with the ethernet wires to open the case - has anyone done this? Is it relatively easy?

Yep. It's the single most fiddly PC upgrade I've ever done, but so long as you take your time it's fine.

You'll need a spatula of some kind to lever the case off (I used one of those wallpaper removal scrapey whatsits), it really is the only way. Once you've done that there are various wires to unclip and you have to lift the drive out, then the ram just clicks in as it would in any regular 'puter.

If you google 'mac mini ram installation' you'll find loads of info including various vids on YouTube etc.
