Well woke up around 5.30 this morning and thought "that alarm in the distance sounds familiar...." looked round the back and my shed door was open with alarm blaring away. Some pikey scum had wrenched the lock open on it then i presumed was startled/deafened by the 130db alarm i have positioned just above their heads and done one. Dunno how long it was ringing for could of been hours, although i didnt go to bed till about 1 anyway. They are lucky i didnt catch them in the act, i keep a hammer handy. Bike appears to be untouched though and theres nothing worth anything in the shed anyway.

Replacing the lock with something better after work, but will be adding a few more surprises...

was wondering what other feasible and legal, booby traps would be worth considering?

Blank shot gun case triggered on a wire to the garage or bike cover that 'bangs' when triggered.

I believe that farmers use them for scaring birds?

+1 Daddy, or some nice flash bang/ smoke grenades linked to a trip wire. Wink

Superbike magazine had an article on it actually that may be worth a read if you can pick one up from WHSmith. It's the one with the 848 and ZX10R on the front. Thumbs Up

I'm in there too. Very Happy

Just what i was thinking!

Swinging paint cans and upturned nail/tar is always a good laugh!

Maybe a big ol' German shepard or something of the sorts would do the job.

Other than that why not hook up a bit of electricity onto your door handle/padlock? Connect a few wires and send the shits up them! (And if they got a pacemaker all the better Twisted Evil )

We had a electric fence for the horses which gave an almighty whack and leant itself to our stable gate. Great thing was it pulsed on and off so if someone brushed it they might not get a shock and therefore try and climb Twisted Evil

Shot gun alarm will scare the pants off them... though they may die of a heart attack, and find the thief lying dead in your garden in the morning. Not too expensive aswell Thumbs Up

You aren't legally allowed to set booby traps for burglars, however if you had a rake or something lying on the floor, then you don't need to explain why thats there... it has to be something that might cause a problem if you didn't know it was there, but you have a valid reason for having it.

So that rules out electrifying the lock, especially as you might forget and electrocute yourself!!

I say the shotgun trap is the best, but if they have a bit of balls and stay for a split second they'll know it was fake. That should wake you up though...

Shotguns alarms looks like a good do, but what are the legalities involving these? im guessing they may cause harm (to hearing?) which = booby trap, but surely a very loud alarm could be classed as the same?

I think its on the edge of legality, but loads of people do it. I think you're much much more likely to be able to get away with it than if you electrocuted a burglar...

Used to have a piece of wood with 6inch nails sticking out of it on the floor just inside the door, that accidentally fell over in the shed every night. If nobody knew it was there and stepped on it while entering the shed it would be painful. Wink

Wouldn't do it now as I would probably forget it was there in my old age. Confused
