 |
|
Yo yo,
So uh yeah, my key for my GIVI 48-ltr top box snapped whilst it was inside the lock, and now I have about 1cm of the tip of the key wedged deep within the lock. My girlfriend tried to remove it with a pair of tweezers, but in all honesty I think she's only pushed it in further.
I have a spare key, but obviously it's of little use with the old key still stuck inside. To make matters worse, the top-box is full of stuff at the moment because I was moving stuff from my nan's house to my new flat, and I have a pair of trainers in there, a box of Weetabix, a heavy-duty lock and chain, and other bits and pieces that I need.
Also, I really need the top box for University (saves me having to walk around in heavy bike gear all day).
So uh yeah.. anyone have any idea's how I might get it out? It's a small lock, and I can't think of anything that could possibly fit in there that's also strong enough to remove it. I've tried spraying some WD40 in there and banging it against the floor in the hope that it might just drop out, but no luck there either.
I would take it to a locksmith but I have no way of getting it there, since I can't attach it to my bike without the lock working, and it weighs a sodding ton, so I can't go carrying it around everywhere.
Only other option of course is buying a new top-box... but I'm looking at best part of a hundred quid to do that... and having just moved into a new flat, it's money that I really can't afford to spend.
Any help, as always, would be greatly appreciated. ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

Could always try putting a tiny bit of super glue onto the remaining half of the key, put it back in and hope you can connect the two pieces and pull the broken bit out?
Although I would be worried the key would get glued to the sides and get stuck.. worth a shot I guess. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

blue tack is your friend, a mate snapped 2 sets of keys in 2 bikes, i think he used blutak both times to retrieve the missing half.
Failing that mate i'd take it to a key cutter, am sure he/she will have a toold to get a key in this sort of problem and while your there get a new key cut. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
