Just found a tin of pears in the back of the fridge dated BBE feb 2007.. Should I try them or are they going to be rank? Do I want to spend the next three hours talking to the pottery?

I wouldn't bother , there only like £1 , it's not worth the risk , if you want some then go buy some new ones.

Get them eaten they found some in the Antartic not long back that had been left by a team in the 50s and when they opened them they where as good as new.
These sell by dates are a major ploy to get you to buy more and if you think about it its air that causes stuff to go off so if its in a airtight tin how can it go off and even the tins have no tin in them anyway

PS. Shaun takes no responsibility for you untimely death due to out of date pears.

My mate ate a tin of sardines that were 5 years out of date, he thought they were ok until I told him how old they were. He suddenly "developed" galloping gut rot. He's still alive, he just don't trust me any more.

Well I'm still here. Pears tasted ok. Morning crap a little softer than usual but that could have been the bacon butties or the chocolate or the change of coffee. All in all no real side effects. I'm not going to chance the two weeks out of date yogurt though.
