I read these two words quite a lot on here, but I'm sorry to say I don't know what they mean. Obviously it's to do with the bike sliding along the ground, but what makes it a high or low slide? And are there any other kinds of slide?

That's highSIDE....

Highside is where you get bucked off cos the back spins up and eventually catches traction, standing the bike up quickly.

Lowside is simply when the front washes out, normally under heavy brakes and a fair bit of turn...

Lowside is when the bike loses all grip while going round a corner and slides out and you fall inwards (like leaning too much /shoulder down gone mad)

Highside is when you start to low side but the bike suddenly regains grip (due to various complicated frictiony thingies, probably magic Wink ) and then the bike 'flips' over to the other side. Its so quick and violent that you go flying over the bike.

As per those examples.

D'oh! Note to self - read properly!

Thanks for the explanations and videos. I suspected it would be something simple like that.

When I came off a couple of months ago I was going round a left hander but then got thrown off to the right, and the bike landed on its right hand side. That would be a highside then?

theres obviously a bit of cross over here, since I went round a left corner and landed in the bushes on the right hand side , yet the left side was badly damaged , the right side fine , cept the zorst..

In fairness, it's what you're told to do in all trackday briefings. There's no need for them to stop anyway - from the time the bike stopped spinning to the ambulance pitching up was 90 seconds on the tape!

There's nothing th other riders could do anyways, they aren't paramedics... it's why they have marshalls and medical people on site the site for such an event.

Lowside= Reaction to not having a bike for a wee while.
Sad
Highside=Reasonable chance of replacing dropped scrapheap for something newer/better. Cool

Amnesia, some brusing and pulled muscles. Plus an injured ankle and shoulder that are still weaker than they should be now.
