Brantano (sp)? do cheap sets. If you're getting them for work, the allowance they provide is +vat.

If they are for work don't buy cheap ones. They will kill your feet dead. Go for Cats which may be around £70, but at least you'll be able to walk at the end of the day.

If they're proper safety footwear then they should be VAT free anyway (like how hard hats/motorbike helmets are)

Just get yourself along to a local industral clothing supplier.

You'll get cheap uncomfy boots from £15ish, or for something decent £40 odd

If you gonna be wearing them day in day out you're best off going for a pair that is comfy/warm/waterproof etc

You can pick up a pair of goretex ones out of Arco for 50-70

Also, no safety equipment that is compulsory has VAT on it.

Yep, I work for them.

Millets stock Gripfast and also Magnum boots/shoes and can order you any "style". Magnum don't do a Gore-Tex version of the steel toe boots but they do use Sympatex, which is just as good.

Hope that helps Smile

Magnums patrols are the best work boot I've ever had. I wear then maybe 12-14 hours a day and don't even notice them, very light for what they are. Excellent quality.

1 working day + cheap boots = Hell.
We used to get a free pair of steelies every year when I worked for Bae Systems, but they used to kill your feet, especially in winter. I was working in a machine shop back then and the oil & swarf used to trash a pair of boots in no time at all.
If I had to wear em all day now i'd spend extra and get something thats comfortable. Its all very well saying they protect your feet but thats a bit pointless if they cripple you whilst supposedly saving you from injury.

I'm guessing from that that you prefer women with flippers?

Most women I've known have been between size 4 and 6.

I got a pair from B+Q not so long ago for 30 quid and they are really confortable. My workmate got some from Wickes for the same price and he loves them. They are both the 'trainer' style.

Buying cheap boots doesnt instantly mean they are gonna kill your feet. Most important thing is to make sure they fit right.

Steel boots are made for low speed impact with heavy objects (walking into stuff or having stuff fall on your tootsies). Bike crashes are different, steel toe boots in bike crashes are subject to high speed impacts and absorb little in the way of shock. In fact they tend to cut toes off whilst protecting the integrity of the boot.

Doc Martens FTW!

Mine were hell for the first 3 days, and are now the most comfy footwear I own and I pretty much always choose them over trainers now, whatever I'm doing.

Oh, and Itchy, size 8 is a girly shoe size.
