questions about the full bike test (direct access)

hi,
going to go full for my bike test in june as i think now at 22 for me its a bit pathetic to the be on Loser plates. so iv just go a few questions to ask about it.

firstly i have been riding since i was 16, had a moped untill i was 17 then had a 125 scooter for 3yrs untill i was 20 i have been riding my cagiva supercity 125(33BHP) since then and im now 22 so im wanting to go for the full test/direct access as riding on loser plates is embarrasing.
firstly:
what test do i go for as im over 21 and what will a pass mean? restricted or not?
how many days do you guys think for training? bearing in mind i have been on the road since i was 16 and extremely confident in my riding allways life saver as i dont have mirrors on my bike, know what position to be in on the road and very observent.
what sort of estimate in price am i looking at for the training and test?
how long is the full bike test?
do i do it on my own bike or will i need to hire the companys "bigger bikes" (over 46BHP i think)?
also whats it like? anything like a CBT? iv done a few of them before LOL.

any help and info will be great!!

Dont do a wheelie in front of a traffic copper... it gets you 3pts and £220 fine.

You will need to do a Theory test as well, £32.50 i think


I did my full test with 3 days training and the test on the 4th, i was only riding for a few months before hand though.
You may have picked up some bad habits though.


As you are over 21 you will be able to do the DAS, which will need to be done on one of their bikes so it meets the minimum power output of the test.
Most places use 500cc commuters, some use 600s. I did mine on a GS500


I paid £375 for my training and test.


It is like a test.
It is a 30 minute test.
Before the test you get asked a couple of safety questions and maintenence questions. Easy enough the instructor will give u a sheet of paper with all the possible questions and answers on it

During the test you need to demonstrate you can come to a complete stop safely from 25 / 30mph (emergency stop)

You also need to demonstrate slow riding competence. This is usually a u-turn, but can also be done by him / her walking next to you, and you having to ride at walking pace without putting your foot down. If you do it is likely to be a fail. (hardest part of the test IMO)

After that it is just a leisurely ride, done on 30mph roads, 40mph roads and if possible a 60mph road
During which you need to get all your lifesavers, mirror checks, road positioning and clearance to parked cars correct.

Might aswell do DAS, entitled to ride anything.
3 days to iron out bad habbits.
bout £600.
bout 30-40 mins.
Use the riding schools bike.
Not really like a cbt.

Hey.

You can do either of the tests, full or restricted.

If you've been riding for as long as you have, take a day lesson and see how you go. Book the test yourself online, its much quicker that way.

Cash? My half day lesson was £45 and the test was £60. I had my own bike.

Full bike test from start to finish for me was 50 minutes. 30 mins was riding (which I'm told was quite high) the rest was paperwork and questions. (Beware the pillion questions at the end, I babbled cause I hadn't thought of that. )

I did the restricted test on my own bike, (saves money on the lesson and hiring a bike for the test) but means your restricted to 33bhp for two years. You might not like that but its much cheaper.

I did the CBT twice which is more of an assessment. I didn 't get the impression that you could really fail it. I failed my driving test 'on a number of occasions' down to nerves (I was younger then.) The examiner was really good, put me at ease and let me get on with it. I passed with 6 minors.

Not sure you can do the restricted test on your 33bhp, technically you shouldn't be using it on a cbt anyway as its above the 15 bhp limit. Someone else can confirm that...

The big bike test (DAS) you need to do on a 500 so it'd need to be hired or borrowed.

If I missed anything, I dare say the regulars will chip in.

I am similar to you befdelta, I am 22 and still on the L plates after 3 years. Had to retake CBT! Lol.

Might have to give Advantage in Wimbledon a call soon myself, seeing as I have now got the money for it.

Out of interest Saj, how much did you pay for yours?

assessment was free.

i paid around £400 for a 3 day course, cbt was expiring soon so thought id do it, and had done the theory a lil while before.
