Only had my new (57 Plate) R6 four months and it was swiped last night between the hours of 1am-7am in Welwyn Garden City area Sad Was covered up at all times, had disc-lock on the front, chain wrapped through back wheel and around frame tight, steering lock on, kept on my front garden right next to my front door!!

Looks like they dragged at least one wheel down the garden, out into the road and put into a vehicle as can see drag marks from one of the wheels...

I'm really pissed bcos even if I get it replaced I have lost my no claims and won't be able to afford the insurance with zero no claims Sad

Sorry, just had to vent my frustration... the ^&£#ers!!!

Bad news, gutted for you. You are literally round the corner from me, I will keep a lookout but I have no doubt it is long gone.

There is a lesson there though, use a ground anchor.

People say it's the parents fault, kill all the parents and it will stop happening. Thumbs Up

brand new R6 - coming to a track near you this summer!
You must be gutted, my condolences.

On the ground anchor note... for those of you who are refused permission to bury a ground anchor there is a company that does screw in ones for mud/grass. i think the idea came from caravan anchor points but it ties a bike down too. they cant be unscrewed once a chain is through it.

I don't hold much hope of it being recovered as I expect it will be stripped for parts Sad About a month ago the bike cover went mysteriously missing one night, although it was windy I don't think it could have simply unhooked itself and blown away, so they were probably checking it out.

Ground anchor wasn't much of an option as i'm renting the house, but in hindsight I should have just buried one somewhere anyway! Also it was such a bitch getting the bike past my neighbours fence and out the gate i didn't think anyone would actually attempt it Rolling Eyes

I'm sending all my docs in to see what the insurance are gonna do next, hopefully they'll cough up without too much hassle, but I don;t think i can get an R6 or like for a couple of years cos the insurance premium Sad It was fun while it lasted (a whole four months)....grrrrr...

SO got a phone call from the Herts police tonight. Apparently my R6 has been found left over at Welham Green (about 5-10 miles from Welwyn Garden City). They said the chain was still round the back wheel and the front disc-lock was in place also. They also said its not rideable as the handlebar has been broken. Its now sitting at a recovery garage being fingerprinted tomorrow, so I should be able to get it back the weekend. Not sure what happens now regarding the insurance as it was 3rd party fire and theft, but I have no idea what kinda damage has been done to it Sad

I don;t quite understand what kinda morons go to the trouble of dragging a bike out my garden and through the car park in the early hours of the morning, load it into a vehicle, then dump it few miles away with a broken handlebar? Anyone got any ideas what the %$&# they were doing, cos I had assumed it had been nicked for parts....

Handy on an internet forum that.

Sorry to hear about the damage to the bike mate, on a good note though ANYTHING that you damaged before it was stolen was done by the thieves Karma Wink

I know it doesnt really help. Your very lucky to get it back, looks like it was oppertunists that got it, as they failed to get the locks off, then dumped it.
Good luck at repairing it and i look forward to your write ups or pic whoring

I live in the same area as you JAW. The police called on my neighbour on Tuesday night, he has a Firestorm, to warn him that bike thieves were operating in this area and to make sure he secured his bike. They also intimated that they have arrested someone they think is responsible for the theft of 7 bikes.

At least you got it back.
