Was just browsing the MCN website bike reviews, and noticed that they state the 1/4 mile accelaration times for all the bikes. The difference isn't as much as I thought it would be e.g. the Busa's time is 10.2 secs, but the Hornet 600 is only 1.7 secs slower at 11.9 secs. Then there are bikes like the CBF250 with it's huge 22bhp which have a claimed time of 16.5 seconds (just over 5 seconds slower than the Busa, yet with 9 times less BHP). There is no particular point to this post, just thought it was interesting Mr. Green Thumbs Up .

That 5 seconds on the drag strip is a long time.

Yeah i know what you mean.

Two Hell angels blatted down the strip at the bulldog on these modified Harley bikes. I went down on my second run and beat both times by two seconds. Neutral

I did 12.44 on a standard faired bandit. But I was quicker than a TRX850 by .2 of a second, and only faster than an NC35 by .01 of a second.

A lot is down to the launch you get and how well the run goes. Not necessarily the bike.

I think also to be noted is the speed they're actually doing as they cross that line. I'd bet my left nut the busa was going faster than the CBF250 :p

I remember being there a year ago. I did my 12s, saw a couple of really quick things break 11s. No-one broke 10.

This went on for a good few hours.

Then they wheeled out some jet car, did it in 6s at 250mph. I've literally never heard noise like it.

er, yes. A friend of mine put in 14s on his ten year old CB500 a couple of years ago clocking 90-something across the line.

The only real justification for high bhp sportsbikes is the way they look, and even then some of them are dog ugly.

One second is a looong time on the drag strip - 5 seconds is several lifetimes.

That 22bhp can be banged straight to the rear wheel and onto the track. The busa's cant be.... You would end up on yer ass if you used the same set off style.

Takes a skilled & brave man to wind a powerfull bike up a drag strip and get a good time.

Done it a couple of time on a LC350 years ago... Never again.

You can't even begin to imagine how loud it was from this video, but everytime he lit that afterburner, I could feel it, and that was quite a fair distance away and to the side as you can see from the video!

That thing was painful, on the second run I ran back to our tent and nicked some earplugs off my dad. For one of the runs I was behind the car, like quite a way back, but every time they lit the jet my eyeballs dryed up lol
