Bet they don't even know there are locals! Honestly, if you had that type of money you'd pay decent money to make sure you never had to actually see Barnet or any of its people! Neutral

Stupid price just for the fact it's within the M25 (wow). Go to the US and you could buy about 30 properties of equal specification to that for your £50million, and you wouldn't have as many neighbours to worry about.

Why is such wealth considered to be obsene though? ,

What if the person actually worked for it? ,

And what motivation do people have if wealth is limited, communism is a fantastic example , everybody is 'equal' why should I be manager of a factory when I take on X amount of risk for the same pay? (note that bribes, luxuries etc are considered to be extra wealth).

There is a saying in biz , you never get rich working for somebody else.

So like if you want a slice of the pie why don't you look for a niche in a market and try to occupy it and thus take the risk yourself to become that person?.

If you go into Maplins you'll see this anti car sleeping device I made a similiar device in 1996 , but never took on the risk and thus I never marketted it, sure it may have made the owner a few £1000, but as said I didn't take the risk and therefore I never got it.

March/April I'll be director of a tiny limited company, to try hawk something I thought of and have a working prototype of. I reckon the company will make nothing for first year so I can keep me day job.

Kazakhstan is definitely an up and coming country.
Just look at Astana for proof of that.

Because there are people in the world with nothing?

Because big fat corporate bastards employ children to keep their costs down?

Because companies keep their profits instead of investing in the business and providing good safe working conditions?

How many reasons do you want?

I saw one of those on tv. Think it was on tommorrows world. It was way before 1996 though.
Good luck with your new project. You'll need it. Hard work wont be enough. I've seen how much you need to develop and market a single simple item and its frightening.

But that doesn't wash for every person with wealth, what about lottery winners?

So why is wealth obscene? If you had a winning lottery ticket, would you say "nah give it to someone else mate, its obscene"?

Think theres a bit of a difference between a lottery win and someone who can spend £50mill on a house then another £30mill doing it up. Just how much have they got?

I wouldn't want such wealth. It doesn't bring you happiness. lots of toys maybe, but thats no fun when the only people playing with em are hanger on and parasites who you attract because of your wealth. Nah. not for me.

I think its that some people have so much wealth that they don't know what to do with it. When it reaches that stage it becomes a joke, when not 2 miles from that house there will be people living 10 to a flat in damp filled rooms.

£80m for a done up house that could make a massive difference to many thousands of lives!

First of the original question was why is wealth obscene? not how much wealth is obscene? If you remember rightly there was a euro millions jackpot of 120 million, ok it was won by six people, but it is entirely possible that one could have won it, making that transaction possible.

How do you know that much wealth cant bring you happiness?
If I had won that 120 million (I had a ticket) I would have been over the moon, to have enough money to ensure the financial well being of your family and friends for life would make me very happy indeed. And as for hangers on, its mugs that get caught out like that.

Wealth can make you happy providing you don't change as a person on the inside. If your attitude suddenly changes to that of someone who feels 'more important' than a normal person then ultimately your choice of friends changes. It is at that stage when you lose your real friends when life turns sour.

Look at Beckham. He has publicly stated that he has no really close friends and I think that will be the same with a lot of people with masses of money and fame.

But the clincher is that its harder to find happiness. Happiness is relative. A boy from a poor family may get a lot of joy at being given a football and set of goals for Christmas. They will be extremely happy playing with it because it special for them.
However, go to a rich spoilt kid who has access to a lot more money and they may get grumpy when they get a football and goalposts.

Its a lot harder to please someone who has everything! The simple pleasures in life that make normal people happy no longer apply. You need more and more and ultimately that is the problem. Even that helicopter is boring if it is normal to you.

Itchy already answered it. I worked 31 hours in the last two days and I get well paid - should I give money to some layabout slob on welfare who can't be arsed to work for a living?

Following on, if I had to give money to people, what do you think would happen? I could turn round and say "Firstly, I'm not doing extra work because I get hardly anything for it - it's given away. Secondly, why don't I just sit at home and let someone else give me their money?"

The whole wealth sharing arguement assumes that everyone will try their best and work honestly. They don't, and it's fundamentally flawed.

Lottery is probably worse in that lotteries are a tax on hope, and is more often played by lower earners and people on benefits as they don't have to work for it.

Also you are guilty by association if you have bought anything imported from outside the major industrialised nations,

very true the old adage of becareful what you wish for, I spend a fair amount of time dreaming about my next trip next bike etc , expectation distracts me and fills my time,

if I have 20 mil in the bank I can go tomorrow and very little is out of reach, bit like male porn stars as a reasonable facimilie , in that they shag good looking (most of the time) women for money every day...but it spoils their personal sex lives.
