France

Speed cameras AFAIK are still not linked up in France to UK DVLA but you can't miss them since they are clearly signposted about 100 metres before you pass them , and unlike in the UK where there is a sign that says there is a camera there is a camera , (Sarkozy is trying to change this btw), they are also put into pairs to get the front AND back of the vehicle.

Cops , depends on the cop , two flavours nasty local cops who are in white cars and bikes, and Gendarmes, fines for small infractions bike confiscation for larger infractions, (where they'll dump you at the nearest motorway exit),

Talk of the tourists down in France was that Gendarmes esp bikers aren't too harsh, Local cops are worse and are jobs worths,

Demonstrated by my stories of Bill (918 fireblade) who was caught on the N85 at well over 100mph, and was caught by cops in a little blind cove, they tutted him and told him not to go so fast saw a VW go past at the same speed and jumped on the bike and went chasing after the VW,

Also me somewhere between Aix Le Bains and Dijon, when I was chased at well over 100 in a Col , (I thought it was somebody challenging me) and he matched me corner for corner on his ST1300, I thought I was going to get me bike taken off me the gendarme was pretty cool and pointed only at a loose bungee.

Another incident not mentioned in my touring post here btw

was when I passed Valerance , I had a tendancy to KD a few times on each round about I passed (it was so hot and sticky you could get the engine casings down) , a Gendarme got onto the same round about , did a couple laps and waved bye bye to me,

another time near sisteron , I passed at very high speed some Gendarmes while stood up on the pegs scratching an itch, hands free, they looked on.

Common traps are exits to villages , as people accelerate before the NSL 130kmh markers, and the autoroutes , just watch the other traffic and rest areas for masses of cars.

Depends on the speed you get caught doing! they can take your bike off you.

There is a rule for truck driving if your caught in europe speeding you WILL face court back in the UK, as if you commited the offence in the UK so you get done twice. Not sure if this only apply`s for H.G.Vs though.
