Getting a bike up stairs

I am currently going through the purchase of a new house.
The house is ideal, it has a nice workshop in the back garden which you cant get to without going through the side porch. So it would be an ideal place for me to store my bike.
The problem I have with this is that to get to my porch you need to go up some quite steep steps. Its about a 2m rise and I would guess at around 20 stairs. Has anyone got any ideas as to how to get a bike up these stairs without risking damage?

Only thing I know is you can lead a cow up stairs, but not down them. Lol

Can you not get some scaffold planks and lay them on the steps as a ramp and get a mate to help push it up?

I have thought about planks and possibly trying to ride up it, should work if I can roughen the planks abit so it doesnt slip, just a bit worried about scraping the side of the bike.

I have being thinking about some sort of electric winch, does anyone know if there is anything suitable on the market?

For a one off get a mate with a flat bed an put it on the back with ramps then off the back onto porch to avoid the steep incline/banging the sides.

For regular i think building a ramp of some kind is only real option. If they are very steep you gotta remember sometimes it'll be wet and wont be able to get it up.

Why the fkuc did you move to a house that is so outwardly Anti-Bike?

I waited to find a house that fitted my bike.

The winch is an option but you have astrono-mental Helf and safety issues with that.
You need approved lifting equipment std.
It would need regular inspection and possibly load testing.
I know its 'jist fur yer hoose', but if it falls onto you or some other poor fkur it will not be funny. Never mind the paint.

Even planks on that incline are risky. If the engine stalls, if its wet, if you miss a footing.

Do you have a web-cam? It will look good on yootube.

You need to find an alternative parking place and inform your insurer.

I have use of my brothers garage, the problem with keeping it there is the hassle of having to go to his house everytime I feel like going out for a blast. Plus the fact I am hoping to start using the bike instead of the car.

Other option, dump the road bike get a trials/off raod bike and its a piece of cake

If the surounding ground rises the same, you could dig into that and make a secure parking space that way.

Seriously? Id ride my rs up a stairs just make sure ya lean back, get the weight over the rear wheel and go for it.
Not too fast, Don't wanna end up with a wall mounted motorbike.. Or firing it out an upstairs window lol

I doubt I could ride up them, they are quite steep.

I have thought about digging out to make a secure parking spot but it would be a big job.

Couldnt really concrete the stairs as they are shared with the neighbours.

Plenty of throttle and no clutch, your front wheel needs to take off as you hit the top step otherwise you smack the sump. Once clear clutch in and brake like hell, a bit of practice and you will be sorted.

If the stairs are next to a flat spot of paving, couldn't you just get 4 fence posts, a ground anchor and some tin roofing or similar, presto you have a convenient storage place, and you can tastefully decorate it with some trellis.

Depends what you consider horrible . I'd quite like the idea of an industrial looking utilitarian lift with some post-apocalyptic hints .

If you want to be really subtle... Get the scissor bit off an old wheeled scissor lift and wire it up to the main.
Dig a hole so that the scissor bit is normally concealed when down. Cover the top of it with paving slabs to match, or could even go for some grass for ultra-subtle .

Ok, that would be a bit of hassle and money, but I reckon the 'cool' factor would more than make up for it .

I have a tip for getting it down the steps, have the engine not running, and take it down backwards, instead of stopping it using the brakes stick it in first and use the clutch to stop it moving, it's what I do when I move my bikes on an incline.

Might not be possible depending how steep the steps are of course.

maybe a little bit over the top but.....

get a load of bricks and a circular saw and cut the bricks into triangles and put on each step so that the bike's got a smoother surface for you to push up...

i used scaffolding board with chicken wire nailed to it when i lived in a house with a similar set up your describing,
i only had it set up for the road bike, but had a xr600 for daily use and it was more than capable of climbing the 30 stairs to get to the back yard and was a nice little fun finish to the day
