Will this work? ,

In that if everybody stops uploading comparatively large pictures to the BCF server , and instead uploads them elsewhere ssay photobucket/Flickr etc and links them into posts via the [IMG] tags, which means we user THEIR bandwidth and conserve Korn's BCF bandwidth and thus preventing the BCF collasping from under its own weight?.

I mean like Korn has abandoned the BCF pretty much and therefore the bandwidth limits or whatever it is causing constant BCF too busy messages will only get worse.

Any thoughts?

Thought of that a while ago, don't use BCF's server for images now, I use photobucket instead Thumbs Up

As far as I know the issue is most likely with processor usage not bandwidth - so this won't really affect it much.

In the past I have suggested that something could be made so that all phpbb icons are stored locally.
The forum software would check for the presence of an appropriate cookie and if set would change all the images etc to a location on the local computer where they are stored.
This might have more of an effect as the server would be dealing with less requests - I think a single BCF page can easily get over 100 hits.

Of course, probably wouldn't make much difference in the grand scheme of things.

Hi

Would help the bandwidth. Korn did have an attempt to put the icons on different servers but it was not a success (basically because it landed up randomising where every icon came from, so a page with 10 of the same icon was likely to get it 10 times from different locations).

Some selective pruning of the database would probably help on the processing side.

All the best

Keith
