Can other people not be trained to cook curries? They just want the cheapest employment who already know the skills.
Unless they only want them because they are Bangladeshi, which surely then goes into race discrimination.

That's how it works. If the supply gets short, you pay more. i.e. the chefs get more expensive which is just how it works elsewhere (in theory)

Aye, i agree.

My dads been a chef in chinatown for the last 20 years, although he is headchef hes actually earning the same to what he was 10 years ago due to the restaurants sorting out work permits and importing their workforce in from mainland china because they can pay them peanuts. Problem is the food quality and the general running of the kitchens are dropping as tbh, these guys just arent upto scratch.

I thought that in parts of the UK there was an unemployment rate of 70% amongst Bangladeshis. If they are willing to pay hundreds to travel thousands of miles why not pay £10's to get them to travel hundreds of miles? Or is it the case that once migrants are settled they are eligible for benefits, so why work?

Migrants can be exploited much more heavily than the locals, what happens is that a migrant is taken from China,India/Pakistan, they are given a contract for 2-3 years.

The person taking them on rents them a property which they MUST take or not get the job, ontop of this they pay fees to the introduction agency so they get paid NMW but have most of it taken away. And thus you can get people working for you for 50p a day.

The migrant is often compliant because their passport is held by the employer and the rules state that if you lose your job and are not an EU citizen you are supposed to go home.

The migrant isn't stupid though after 18 months they can apply to settle here, BUT they cannot own their own businesses due to various restrictions, so they go home get married , and bring their spouse over who can own businesses who then opens their own business quit that job and start working in their own business.


Employers are actually sealing their own fate though, since once they own their own business they are often MUCH more competitive than the old lot.

And thus drive the original owners out of business since the biz their usually own are perfect competition (no barriers to entry).

Thats how classical economics works.

If nobody will do your job , you increase wages until it attracts people to do the job that you are offering, if there are 1000s of applicants you can afford to reduce wages.

The NMW has distorted this and effectively a cabal has formed where most jobs pay NMW , and thus it is a maximum and a minimum.

However avarice has taken over which means bosses want top employees and want to pay them sod all too.

At work alot of people feel incredibly threatened by outsourcing and also the polish girlie who works for NMW and is being trained to do more things, I feel threatened too even though my job can't be outsourced fully (audit manager).
