Let me explain. Both myself and my hubby are disabled. He is registered blind and I have mobility problems. Usually I go out and get the shopping using my little Honda 90 but it's a bit sick at the moment so that's not an option. But hubby has a taxi card which he can use to call a black cab to take a journey of £11.80's worth of fare for £1.50 so we booked one to take us to the local supermarket. So far, so good. But the journey home wasn't so good. We settled in a nearby pub to wait for the return cab. The cab company phoned to let us know that one was on the way and expected in 15 minutes and that the driver would either come in or phone to let us know he was there. 30 minutes later I went outside for a ciggy and when I turned to come back in, I spotted a taxi parked up the road. At that moment I got the phone call. When we got into the cab the clock was already up to £10.80 so the card would have to be swiped twice = £3.00. The driver was straight away very aggressive saying he'd been waiting for 15 minutes. All the way home he argued with hubby who, by the way, was sober as he's on medication. When we got home, (the long way round), the driver was still swearing and insulting us, and got out of the cab, faced up to my hubby and threatened to make him "more disabled than you are". What the !!! This company is employed to take vulnerable and disabled people to their destination. not rip them off, insult and threaten them on the way. As he drove off he aimed at and knocked into the trolley full of shopping that we had squashing it against a parked car.
F**k.
Sorry, I just needed to get that out of my system.

Sounds like a dick who had a bad day and needs reporting, I would never expect someone I paying for a service to be anything other than pleasant and courteous.

I did get his number but in the end I didn't need it. I phoned the taxi company and they were able to check their records. It was on record that he'd arrived and that it was 21 minutes before the card was swiped, (registering the fare). Their policy is that they're not to wait longer than 5 minutes and then to contact the fare either directly or via the office. He did neither. We didn't know he was there. Hubby remember, is blind. How would he know a cab was there? That's the whole idea of this scheme. The drivers are 'specially selected' so that they're helpful to those who need it. On the way down the cabbie came to the door and even carried the (empty) trolley into the cab. Not so this one. He just sat there while we struggled to get the fully loaded trolley and extra shopping bags into the back of the cab. It was a fraught journey too. He kept stopping, in the middle of the road, to turn and utter some abuse then he'd wait until hubby leaned forward to hear him, then drive off like a lunatic throwing us back in our seats.
I just couldn't believe him standing there squaring up to a man who he knows to be disabled, and obviously so as one of his eyes is sewn shut and the other one is extremely bloodshot. What a f**king brave man he was. The a**ehole didn't even take us right to our door. If he had, I'd have caught that last bit on CCTV, sound included.

Police ***WARNING> Sweeping Statement Alert <WARNING*** Police

ALL TAXI DRIVERS ARE ASREHOLES!

A pitiful few are not as much arseholes as the rest.

One or two, as yet unidentified, are generally OK.

END OF SWEEPING STATEMENT

Entirely your choice but I would contact the local council and report him or the company. No one deserves to be treated like that. It may not sound like much but at least you should get an apology and the bloke will lose his taxi licence.

If I was closer I would be hunting the bloke down and cutting his tongue out.

I've got to admit that in all the fights and stuff I've had over the years that no one has ever threatened my garry.

Makes you think twice when a crazy eyed bloke chases you down the street with his trousers round his ankles, hard on in hand and shouting "I've got something for you Gary?"

I think he will receive some sort of punishment. If nothing else but to be taken off the Taxi Card books. When I complained the girl was very interested in the two swipes of the card. Basically he got at least £19 (from the local council who subsidise the scheme) for what should have been £6.50 max. They're quite strict on any fiddles, this I do know. There was an argument when we got out of the taxi, (me trying to get him away from hubby) and he refused to give us the card back. He just kept yelling that he would get paid any way. I told him to keep the card but I think he then realised he was heading for big trouble if he did that and I just took it off him.
The taxi company phoned me back with a complaint number and said they'll contact me in around 10 days time.
There's another down side to all this. Hubby now won't want to wait for the cab in the pub any more because the driver called him a drunken c**t just because we came out of a pub. This means, apart from me missing out on my pint of guinness, that we'll have to stand and wait outside the store in all weathers and with nowhere to sit. That last bit is a problem for me especially as it can be a long wait some times. (an hours wait today)

What a sacrifice..... Shocked
You sit in the pub and he can hold on to the trolley.
But don't make a pig of yourself on the 'Black Nectar' now. Wink

Have you talked to the police? Him swearing at you is assault and completely unacceptable. I think it affects his right to hold his taxi permit too.
I would not let it go and if I had a witness I would have him in court.
But you might not want the hassle. Sick

Maybe a bit extreme but its the bit that really annoys me.

Why should you not continue to go to the pub? Why should you have to change because of some arse? I've always been proud to be able to say I'm British. Its getting to the point that I'm glad I've got another nationality to fall back on.

Slightly off topic but I was in a bar in Osnabrueck recently. Three English blokes come in, not squaddies, its easy to tell Laughing , make a load of noise have two large drinks each and do a runner (at most places in Europe you don't pay until you leave.) I paid their tab cos I was disgusted. 9 euros, whats that? 6-7 quid if that. The bar down the road already had bouncers and were refusing entry to English people. Hope your proud.

No witnesses. Like I said earlier, if he'd pulled up outside the house I would have caught the face-off threatening bit on my CCTV. With that I might just have taken it a lot further. He wouldn't have been able to deny it what ever excuse he gave.

I'm dual nationality as well. I know what you mean about the British. This w**ker was definitely English, the pig ignorant version. I felt very ashamed of that part of my nationality today.
On the pub bit, hubby already had a theory that cabs don't like to pick up fares from pubs, even though I first called the cab at around 3pm. Not usually a hotspot trouble time. This driver will now have convinced him that it is indeed unwise to call a cab to pick up from a pub.
(I suppose it was a trouble time for him today. And it's going to get worse)

I have received a reply from the taxi company. Basically they're going to do sod all about it. They say they'll keep an eye on that driver to see if he does it again and in the meantime, their allocation system means that they can't guarantee that we won't get the same driver again.

What a complete tosser.
Arnt black cabs CCTV'd anyway?
I hate taxi drivers, worse drivers going, rude and dis-respectful.
Ive gotten lifts with utter wankers over the past.
One, who said to me 'Alright love trying not to use my brakes today'
And another who seemed high on something.

You do have a witness.

Your hubby makes the complaint.
You are the witness.
It is all the police need to make inquiry/charge etc. Your move.
